Mary Anastasia O'Grady writes in today's Wall Street Journal that George Soros's Open Society Institute has been funding terrorism. In a column entitled Friends of Terror in Peru, O'Grady notes that
Thursday's vote by the European Parliament to take the Peruvian guerrilla group known as the Tupac Amaru (aka MRTA) off its terrorist list has Peru in an uproar. For good reason: The MRTA is notorious for kidnapping, torturing and murdering civilians to advance its political agenda. More recently, Peruvian officials have linked it to Hugo Chávez's "Bolivarian Movement," which seeks to destabilize democracies in Latin America, and to the Colombian rebel group FARC...Get out your stopwatch and time how quickly Soros's paid shills at Media Matters for America write up a post denouncing the WSJ report....Meanwhile the work of other foreign-funded NGOs in the interest of terrorist organizations warrants urgent attention. Take the Peruvian "human-rights" group Aprodeh, which labored in Europe to get the MRTA off the terrorist list there, even though Peru still considers it a grave threat to its security.
...In 2007, according to government records, Aprodeh received funding from Oxfam America, George Soros's Open Society, the John Merck Foundation, the city of Barcelona, the Dutch embassy and a U.S. government agency called the Inter-American Foundation, among others. On Friday, the Peruvian government asked Aprodeh to explain how its NGO status allows it to intervene on behalf of terrorists, as it did in the European Parliament...[emphasis added]
If anyone’s looking for a new villain for the next Bond movie, let me suggest someone. His first name begins with G, and his last name begins with S.
It was only a matter of time before Soros was discovered to be funding terrorists.
It won't. Democrats love Chaves and Castro and hate America.
“Aprodeh received funding from ......John Merck Foundation”
Interesting list of folks and activists groups listed here for Merck as well...

Aprodeh received funding from . . . a U.S. government agency called the Inter-American Foundation . . . .
Soros aside, what’s this all about? Anyone know anything about this Aprodeh group, aside from this article? Are they a good organization that happens to be on the wrong side of this one issue (MRTA), or is there something deeper going on here?
If Aprodeh is so bad, why are we funding them with our tax dollars? That seems to be a bigger story than Soros....
Mary Anastasia O’Grady’s probably their best columnist, and has written totally accurate things on Latin America for some years now (ignored, of course, by our esteemed leaders).
This, like everything else, will get no reaction.
Interesting but not surprising. I go to BCN a lot, and over the years, I have seen it turn from your average European Socialist city to one that permits and even supports the anarchist thugs who run loose in its streets. And they're supporting the marxists in Peru as an anti-Spain and anti-American gesture. All this in the name of Catalan nationalism, of course.
Verdaguer would weep.

“Gee... It sure would be too bad if he was to have some kinda accident or sumtin’.”
I'm confused by this as well. It appears the headline could likewise be rewritten as:
WSJ's O'Grady: United States Government Funds Terrorism
If it's true that Aprodeh is a Peruvian terrorist-supporting organization being funded in part by American taxpayer dollars, that does seem like the bigger story.
Best to leave this one alone considering he also funds McCain and his shadow party.

Have you been to DC lately? Same thing is going on there.
SOROS...what a great name for a Bond villian.
If you want to understate that Barrack Hussein O. and John McCain are equals that is simply an hoax....
Wonder why
I wondered how long that would take to rear it’s ugly head. It’s a real stain on McCain, that he would associate with the likes of Soros.
I appreciate you keeping the topic in plain sight.
John McCain has a nonprofit foundation that has received money from the Tides Foundation and from George Soros. Many are not aware of that fact.
