Is that why we assist at Mass -- to get "pumped and happy?".
Have you ever come out of mass feeling lifted and happy with the Lord?
I was wondering that myself. I only managed quick snatches of the Mass today. I have to imagine that if they DID, some camera would have caught it.
Yes, and even though I made a snippy comment I did say a silent prayer for your husband’s full recovery.
>>Is that why we assist at Mass — to get “pumped and happy?”.<<
I don’t think that’s fair. I was pumped and happy after the Papal blessing. It’s not WHY we assist but rather a consequence.
My husband loves to sing and wanted to do same for this mass. He felt it was an honor to be selected and comes home every night fatigued. He is my hero.
I accept your comment but I much prefer the language “come out of mass feeling lifted and happy with the Lord?” To me, “pumped and happy” evokes images of a John Paul II style Catholic Youth Day with leaping, bounding, unrestrained charismatic-type demeanor. I take it this does not apply to you or to the poor man with the cancer treatment. However, to me the Catholic Mass is still a dignified, basically solemn celebration. Inner joy is a wonderful consequence but many will take that to mean an outwardly emotive comportment in Mass is what it’s all about. I know you don’t.
I make no apologies for my choice of words as they is how he felt leaving mass today.
I see what you’re saying.
"Vat are these Amis going to do next?"
You most certainly can, and I suspect your comments would be of particular interest. Besides, you would be doing us Catholics a favor.
I am blessed already. And I really didn’t want to be late for my manicure. :-)
Please understand that none of my comments were meant as criticizms of the people who where singing or playing instruments. It wasn’t their job to pick the music and for the most part, they did a marvelous job. My son and my husband are musicians and have unfortunately taught me to listen for sour notes and there were a few but generally it was very nicely done.
Well that is important.....;-).
Congratulations to your husband for a job well done. I especially liked the various individual voices we heard singing the psalms. The black priest who was directing the choir has a great voice as did the many others who sang solo or in chorus. Placido appears to be one of the few, if any, persons on the approved list for this really depressing thread of holier than the pope catholics. I felt blessed and happy to be able to listen to and watch the whole event and grateful to the many, many, persons who participated in one fashion or another to make it possible. Prayers for your husband’s recovery from prostate cancer. >
Look at post #330 -- Pope appears to be suffering a little downer himself.
So he was relieved to be finally leaving the stadium?
I believe you’re right, and that it also applies if listening by live radio.
Can you read the hearts of others? Criticizing the music is not the same thing as thinking one is more holy or Catholic than the Pope. The Pope himself is a musician and has written much about the liturgy and liturgical music. He has said that much of the music that accompanied this Mass is inappropriate for the Mass. Also, he did not personally select the musical pieces for this Mass, so we are not criticizing him in any way. We are rather commiserating with him and praying for him.
