Only 38% of Dems claim excellent mental health
World Net Daily | February 29, 2008 | Dr. Rossiter

Posted on 03/12/2008 9:18:30 PM PDT by Got a right to Life? . . Huh?

When the Gallup pollsters asked Americans what they thought about their own mental health, they were intrigued by the difference between Democrats and Republicans.

While 58 percent of Republicans reported having excellent mental health, only 38 percent of Democrats described themselves that way.

The study was no surprise to D. Lyle H. Rossiter, Jr., a noted psychiatrist and author of a controversial book that makes the clinical case liberalism is a mental illness.

"Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded," says Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, "The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness." "Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."

Rossiter says the kind of liberalism being displayed by the two major candidates for the Democratic Party presidential nomination can only be understood as a psychological disorder.

"A social scientist who understands human nature will not dismiss the vital roles of free choice, voluntary cooperation and moral integrity – as liberals do," he says. "A political leader who understands human nature will not ignore individual differences in talent, drive, personal appeal and work ethic, and then try to impose economic and social equality on the population – as liberals do. And a legislator who understands human nature will not create an environment of rules which over-regulates and over-taxes the nation's citizens, corrupts their character and reduces them to wards of the state – as liberals do."

Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:

creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;

satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation;

augmenting primitive feelings of envy;

rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.

"The roots of liberalism – and its associated madness – can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind," he says. "When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious."

"The reason the relationship exists between being a Republican and more positive mental health is unknown, and one cannot say whether something about being a Republican causes a person to be more mentally healthy or whether something about being mentally healthy causes a person to choose to become a Republican," the study concluded.

Isn't it wonderful when someone confirms in research what you have known for years? I suppose this research will mean that liberals will start claiming some sort of mental disability and demand a benefit of sorts for their shortcomings.

You are more right than you know. Benefit mandates on health plans are a major reason for their high cost. At this moment, the house passed a bill to make mental benefits the same as all other benefits.

It will add about 10% to the cost of most plans.

rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.

I can see that this might be a psychological defense mechanism - IOW, a tacit admission by Lefties that they need some sort of protection from their fellow LW Loonies.

So more Republicans “claim” to be sane than RATS. You would never suspect it given their recent suicidal behavior.

Adding mental benefits will, over time balloon costs out of control because the science of mental illness is entire subjective. If the patient claims they feel a certain way, well it must be covered.

Nice to see an unscientific (but real) poll that confirms the book recently written by a shrink that lays out the case the liberalism is a mental disorder. At least 62% of them are on the road to accepting they have a mental illness.

It will bring this great country to its knees to have a mentally ill liberal as President.

All of you who associate with a liberal or two; get them on the road to health. Pass this article to them.

You’re both right this is something to be careful about, however, the way current laws are for “parity” (mental illness gets same coverage as physical) a specific diagnosis is required by the doctor, not a description by the patient, and not all illnesses are covered, only serious ones.

For example, depression and generalized anxiety disorder are not covered, but schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and psychosis are. This makes sense as many lives could be saved, the patients as well as their potential victims in manic or delusional phases of those serious illnesses.

At least 62% of them are on the road to accepting they have a mental illness.

But being liberals, they will blame that illness on society, not on their own thinking.

Noticing the Euro Nations with Monarchies, or even symbolic Monarchies, and populace of those Nations with penchant for Socialism causes me reflection upon the drift of our Nation.

Modern Democrats seem to seek a stylized Monarchist, Marxist, Oligarchy replacement for that which our Founding Fathers engineered for us reflecting upon their personal experience and disdain of the forementioned Monarchy.

This perception is the same as our Founders fought at the time against those whom desired a ruling class.

The (Dems, Libs, Socialists) retardation seems to be in their Tinkerbelle fantasy of immature adults responsible for their play yard. Mummy and Daddy pals with pockets full of treasure and candy to treat them from cradle to grave.

Of course, not all Republicans have "excellent mental health" either.
