Heritage gives way to profits.

I’ve eaten at his restaurant in Columbia, SC a few times on my way to VA.
About a third of the folks in there were black.
They have good chow, the NAACP doesn’t.

I’ve been in Maurice’s restaurants and there are paintings from the war of northern aggression and I doubt those will be taken down. If it was all about profit they would have changed their stripes years ago when their barbecue sauce was removed from supermarket shelves because of their views.

Not in this case, IMO he showing more Southern Heritage by exposing customers to different and still accurate flags of the CSA.

"Whether, it's the first national or the last national flag, that does not change history, and the intent, and purpose that that group stood for - which was to overthrow the government of America - doesn't change with the garment that they hang off their pole," he [NAACP] said. Unfortunately, your peers lied here. The group wasn't trying to overthrow the government, they were trying to secede from it.

Mr. Randolph must be getting the Confederacy confused with the Black Panthers... I believe the CSA intended to break away from the USA not overthrow it.
To: Non-Sequitur
which was to overthrow the government of America: This is a lie, the Confederate States were never in it to “overthrow the Government in Washington”: MR NAACP better go back and reread his history!..
The people of SC could have cared less what happened in the rest of the USA if the war had been won by the Confederacy!
The CSA on the otherhand was wrongly invaded!

Funny part of it is that blacks were the master of BBQ. From revolutionary times until the 50’s, black servants or slaves were the pit masters. The white overseers would not dirty their hands cooking a beast. After the Civil War, many of the freed slaves opened businesses making and selling BBQ.
Some of the best BBQ I have experienced were made in black establishments.
For my money though, KC BBQ, with the dry rub is the best eating in the world.

I wonder what are the racial demographics of those half-dozen restaurants which are receiving the changed flag. No doubt any correlation will be purely coincidental.

I like Maurice Bessinger. I bought some of his BBQ sauce years ago in a regular supermarket. Looks like the idiots at the NAACP killed that part of his business
Maurice is useful he makes good food and the NAACP is useless and worthless

I like Maurice’s restaurants when we go thru Columbia...they do BBQ a little different there with that yellow sauce....one of the things nice about BBQ is it’s regional differences....I feel that North Carolina BBQ has slipped a lot in the last 25 years....too many guys using gas cookers...hope Maurice keeps flying the Confederate flag....if nothing else, it provokes a response from the NAACP that shows how irrelevant they’ve become.

At about half of his dozen restaurants, Bessinger has replaced the better-known Confederate battle flag Clearly Maurice has decided upon six of one and a half dozen of the other.

Bessinger has replaced the better-known Confederate battle flag with its red background, blue cross and white stars with the less recognized and perhaps less controversial first flag of the Confederacy - a banner with two red stripes, a white stripe and a blue square with a circle of white stars.Ahem.... Rasising hand ...
AH..... excuce me but.........
The battle flag.. is NOT the STARS and BARS lady......BUT a banner with two red stripes, a white stripe and a blue square with a circle of white stars. IS THE STARS AND BARS..

actually, not.
i think it's nothing more complicated than Maurice's "BBQ" isn't really BBQ. (it reminds me of "sloppy joes" soaked with mustard.)
