California Fire Battalion Chief - Whoever Did This Knew What They Were Doing

October 22, 2007

Fire officials are now stating that the Orange County Santiago fire was purposely set and there is speculation that other fires may have also been deliberate. See Interactive Map

Fire officials found three separate “points of origin,” all near the intersection of Silverado Canyon Road and Santiago Canyon Road. Two were on one side of the road, and the third was on the other. “Whoever did this knew what they were doing,” said Kris Concepcion, a fire authority battalion chief. Also, the fire traveled 3 miles in its first 20 minutes when it was ignited about 6 p.m. Sunday, he said.

We are NOT implying that the California fires are an act of terrorism however; the threat of pyro-terrorist attacks pose a significant risk to the U.S. and the fires in California and in Greece earlier this year should be a wake-up call.

In 2003 an FBI memo alerted law enforcement agencies that an al-Qaeda terrorist being held in detention had talked of masterminding a plot to set a series of devastating forest fires around the western United States.

It was reported that the detainee, who was not identified, said the plan involved three or four people setting wildfires using timed devices in Colorado, Montana, Utah and Wyoming that would detonate in forests and grasslands after the operatives had left the country.

“The detainee believed that significant damage to the U.S. economy would result and once it was realized that the fires were terrorist acts, U.S. citizens would put pressure on the U.S. government to change its policies,” the memo said.

How Can So Many Fires Be By Natural Causes ?

A Local News Radio talk show host in San Diego asked, “how can so many fires, in so many places, in such a short period of time, all be caused by natural causes”.

al-Qaeda Detainee Spoke of Fire Plot

As we have stated before. If you see anything suspicious, report it to law enforcement immediately.

UPDATE: Video - Officials say arson now suspected in Orange County Fire

UPDATE: From Los Angeles Fox News

“I’m sad to report this is an arson fire,” OCFA Chief Chip Prather announced at an early morning briefing. “There were three separate starts: two on one side of the road and one on the other, and obviously we are actively investigating that.”

Links - A number of blogs and websites have sprung up to report on the fires. We will provide links to a couple we’ve found.

We know that at times that they are deliberately set. This one has us wondering if terrorism is involved. This morning on FOX NEWS they said that a CHP helicopter saw a guy on a motorcycle deliberately start a fire. He got caught! GOOD!

If the house goes to pieces, we still have the floating APC. Assuming it’s still floating after a hurricane.

Bill O’Reilly just mentioned FR on his show, criticizing it for “extremism” in making the inference that illegals started these fires. He also,in the same breath, mentioned the Huffington Post for remarks made against Bush regarding the fires. He sure has it in for FR,doesn’t he? “Right-wing nuts”,”drop them in the middle of the ocean”, etc. He’s really something.

Well speculation is: terrorism, people trying to get out of their mortgages, people trying to burn out illegals, illegals getting back at those trying to make them leave, ok..who else am I forgetting....

My heart goes out to those who have lost so much.

Yeah that’s true. A lot of people might have reasons to set fires like these.

More likely it’s ELF. This is a classic example of environmental terrorism.

ELF would be my first guess. The next two would be run-of-the-mill pyromaniacs (of which there are far more than many realize) and Islamic terrorists.

Source, please?

Google "firefighter arson", and you'll get enough case history and professional essay reading to last through Christmas, assuming you don't have a day job.

About Strategerist, absolutely. He’s the foremost defender of islamists on Free Republic... and has been since John HK was banned. As far as he’s concerned, nothing is, was, can be or ever will be islamic terrorism. Not fires in California, not shooting sprees in shopping malls by muslim gunmen, not train bombings on the India/Pakistan border. Nothing. Ever. His rational, dispassionate analysis is always a road map to the same conclusion: that Freepers are knuckle-dragging islamophobes, while muslims are just convenient targets for our own inherent bigotry.

I can’t say for sure that the same names are always backing him up, but there are always a select few who follow his lead by repeating the same strawman arguments and adopt the same condescending tone. I suppose a search of his history here would reveal more about them.

Thanks, Cal. Now W can go survey the destruction wrought by his open border policy, not to speak of the numerous lives lost in these fires.

There should be outraged protesters everywhere along his route in California.

California always has fires, often very bad ones. I don’t really feel that sympathetic for people who build homes in places that are likely to burn.

Besides, it is California. I have really had enough of that state constantly having disaster after disaster and then expecting to get more off the government teet.

Deal with your own stew.

Nevertheless, I hope any arsonists are found.
