Activists march in support of deported Mexican woman

LOS ANGELES — Immigrant rights activists marched through downtown Saturday in support of a deported illegal immigrant who spent nearly a year huddled inside a Chicago church to avoid being separated from her U.S.-born son.

Elvira Arellano, 32, was sent back to her native Mexico last weekend after traveling to Los Angeles to attend a rally for the overhaul of U.S. immigration laws.

"It's an effort by all immigrant rights groups to come together and re-energize the whole movement, in solidarity with Elvira," said college student Marylou Cabral, 20.

Police closed off streets as hundreds of demonstrators, including many families with young children, marched up Broadway carrying large photos of Arellano and her 8-year-old son, Saul. Others waved flags, banged drums or raised placards reading "We are all Elvira!"

Organizers said more than 2,000 people demonstrated, but authorities said it was closer to 600.

At the end of the march, a stage was set up and dozens of speakers called for a path to citizenship for the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the country.

Arellano became an activist and a symbol for illegal immigrant parents by defying her deportation order and speaking out from her sanctuary in Chicago's Adalberto United Methodist Church, where she had stayed with her son since Aug. 15, 2006.

She recently announced that she was leaving Chicago to lobby lawmakers in Washington, D.C. On Sunday, shortly after she spoke at a rally in a Los Angeles church, she was detained by immigration agents and deported.

Arellano is now residing in Tijuana, only about 100 miles from where she says she entered the United States illegally in 1997.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says it deported 149,376 people from Oct. 1 to June 18, mainly by targeting homes, offices and factories. That's on pace to match last year's total of nearly 200,000 and far higher than the annual tallies in the early part of this decade.

We often hear about how proud Mexicans are, proud heritage, etc. So, how come the proud Mexican people and the proud Mexican government are not trying to improve conditions in Mexico so that the proud Mexican people would want to stay in Mexico?

Do they have a millions-of-illegal-aliens problem too?

Of course not. Nor do they have a Constitution such as ours.

Uh... that’s infringing on Bill Waterson’s copyright, no matter whether or not we agree with the sentiment.

"...dozens of speakers called for a path to citizenship for the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the country."

There already is a path to citizenship - Go home and get in line BEHIND your fellow citizens who are applying to come here the legal way.

“Organizers said more than 2,000 people demonstrated, but authorities said it was closer to 600.”

Hopefully the other 1400 illegal colonists are headed south.

Mexican Senate Outraged over US Deportation of Illegal Immigrant Elvira Arellano

The Mexican Senate is urging President Felipe Calderon to send a stern note protesting the U.S.’s deportation of Elvira Arellano. Arellano is the illegal immigrant who had taken refuge in a Chicago church for the last year. She was apprehended and deported by U.S. authorities after she snuck out of the church and gave a speech to an illegal immigrant rights rally in Los Angeles.

“For the Americans to deny her the human right to live in freedom and prosperity and forcibly send her back here is a crime,” charged Senator Ernesto Mentiroso (PRD-Sonora). “Mexico is no place for a single woman like Senora Arellano to raise a son. The opportunities are much better in the United States.”

Mentiroso also asserted that since Arellano had already illegally entered the United States twice she should have the right to stay in America. “This woman has run the gauntlet of the American border twice,” said Mentiroso. “It is her determination to be in America. It should be her right to stay in America.”

The Senate approved a scholarship to help Arellano’s 8-year-old U.S.-born son, Saul, “should he suffer the misfortune of ending up in Mexico like his mother.” Saul is still in the United States.

Remember some of the pictures from the last "protests?"

Moonbats On Parade

I'm borrowing Michelle's post title to link to her two astonishing collections of photos from yesterday's pro-illegal immigration demonstrations. Here's one as a teaser, but you really should see them all:

MASSIVE photo essay on the Los Angeles immigration protest! Read more at modernconservative.com

I saw A LOT of this. People---almost invariably kids---hiding their faces like urban stagecoach tilters. What is the deal with this? If conservatives marched in such numbers and elements of the marchers hid their faces like this, the media and the Left would be apoplectic with fear and accusations of looming fascist tyranny.

Send immigration in and deport as many from the crowd as you can.

So, are you with the illegal alien criminal scumbags or with true Americans that want their criminals asses out of our country?

It is a simple question. Just let us know if you are with the honest Americans or the criminal aliens. No essay and no bullshit.

Us or them. If you answer with more than one word I’ll read your answer as them and will ignore the rest.

If I shopped this picture ................

......... and changed two words to their appropriate counterparts and put a big "X" through the commies face I would have my post deleted, but this is acceptable?

Folks pack up the pop-up trailer and drive to Europe as these scumbags appear to be winning.

I'm with the 5th Amendment to the United States Constitution. And the fact that you do not understand it kinda' makes me feel that you should leave the country.

In case anyone else cares to take a rational look at this, one can't go about rounding-up people on the street willy-nilly. That should be understood, but a number of posters on this thread don't have the capacity.

Let me just add one thing: let's say the Stasi swoop-in and detain 100 marchers. Let's say 10 of them actually are U.S. citizens. Acceptable collateral damage?

Can you think of other occasions where the Bill of Rights is inconvenient?

The 10 would be stopped during the deportation process and returned to their hovels in America.

Note, the Stasi were East German and we don’t employ them here. They were also similar to our Secret Service, CIA or FBI and would not have been on a clean up crew like this.

Try mixing in some history books with your Harry Potter.

Your response to my post and your lack of analytical thought precludes me from reading any of your other drivel.

Because I knew that I couldn't explain the 5th Amendment to you. You simply don't have the capacity.

Open question to the forum: anyone else see a Constitutional issue or problem with “Surround the area 100% and round them up and ship them back?”
