Before he falls out of the top tier of GOP White House hopefuls, chief advisers to Sen. John McCain are urging him to quit his day job and become a full-time presidential candidate. "Just resign," one says he told McCain. "Show you're all in." Advisers say being a senator is a drag. He doesn't have enough time to campaign and raise money. Worse: The issues he has to vote on, like immigration reform, are killers. If McCain takes that advice, here's the game plan. "Pick three issues conservatives care about and nail them," says one adviser, "and attack [Sen.] Hillary Clinton every day. He needs to break out, and becoming the anti-Hillary will work."

Sounds like a good way to get rid of him,but I think McCain see’s the handwriting on the wall. he aint gonna be President and he isnt smart enough to quit the Senate and retire from politics.
McCain won reelection in 2004 by a greater margin than Bush won in AZ over Kerry. McCain got 76.7% of the vote compared to Bush’s 54.9%. Highly doubtful that JD could have beat McCain in the primary. McCain got 68.7% in 1998.
Well, when you have to pick between McCain or a ‘rat, of course he’ll win by that much. I’m sure though, that AZ voters were already sick of McCain’s super-RINOism and would’ve jumped at the chance to kick him out.
Quit now. Don't run. Call it even. The U.S.'ll be ahead.
Quit? Hell, he hasn’t made but what 5 percent of his senate votes this year.
Why quit, it’s the perfect gig. Get paid way too much for not even showing up. Great benefits too.
And look at how many folks kiss his butt cause he is a senator. Well a bad senator. RINO at that.
Yes, she would probably appoint someone like KYLE.
You're gonna need it....
So why did Bush only receive 54.9% against one the biggest, dirtiest rats of all, John Kerry, while McCain received 76.7%, almost 22% more. The point is that McCain draws wide support in AZ from both parties and independents. I have a home in Scottsdale and will be probably moving out there permanently later this year.
McCain's stance on immigration reform is what is going to hurt him with the voters. John Kyl, more of a conservative than McCain, won with only 53.3% of the vote in 2006, and he ran on a tough platform of no amnesty for illegals, which is why his support for the Senate bill was so despised. AZ is starting to trend Dem with an influx from CA and the Northeast.
And wouldn't surprise me if he accepted....
Just Quit...please!
Must be a Democrat Media guy telling him to quit the Senate cause he’s got NO chance to become President!!
Throw in Biden,Dodd and Brownback and yoou’ve got a deal!!!
Being in the senate hasn't hurt Hillary or Obama. Curses!
They have as much chance of being President as I have. Hillary is going to be crowned after the long coronation runup and Obama will be the token black also-ran. The Rep race is much more competitive than the Dem race, but you would never know it from the media.
One problem - Gov. Janet "Nappy" Napolitano would name herself as his replacement. (Or appoint Jim Peterson, who lost BIG TIME to Jon Kyl last November).
“Please take that advice Senator McCain! We out here in AZ would be thrilled!”
Would be nice, but ain’t gonna happen. Now we (I live in Kingman) will simply have to wait to toss McCain and Kyl out. Given his age I doubt McCain will choose to run again anyway, but even if he does he and Kyl are going to discover that we have not forgotten what they tried to do to us.
My worry is that even if Hayworth had prevailed in the primary (and as unpopular as McCain is outside of AZ, he isn’t nearly so in the state — and I’m not so sure he would’ve lost, as you well remember that McCain plays dirty, as evidenced by all those busloads of Black Democrat voters in Detroit that flooded the MI Presidential primary in 2000), he would’ve sandbagged Hayworth for the general, and if the AZ Dems had put up a halfway decent candidate (such as ex-RINO turned ‘Rat former AG Grant Woods), we would’ve lost the seat. :-\
You are right that we will not forget what Kyl and McCain did. Kyl may think that he’s safe as he was just reelected but I think he’s in for a shock in 2012. It is a shame as I was a huge supporter of Kyl’s and could even see him as President.
I’m not one of those Conservatives that if I don’t agree with everything you do, then I’m not going to vote for you. That is foolish. But what Kyl did to us with Immigration by totally ignoring his constituents who just got him reelected was uncalled for. He did a complete 180 on us and I still do not understand it. It’s like someone was blackmailing him or something.
