That's the question Bobby Schindler asked in the case involving Jesse Ramirez, the Arizona man whose case paralleled that of Schindler's sister, Terri Schiavo, until Ramirez woke up. The Arizona Republic reports:
...Bobby Schindler of the Florida-based Terri Schindler Shiavo Foundation placed the blame on a medical establishment quick to dismiss patients with brain injuries. Why is Jesse alive? His family sought legal intervention with the help of the Alliance Defense Fund:
Schindler is the brother of Terri Schiavo, a brain-damaged Florida woman who died in 2005 after a decades-long court battle.
"What is the rush?" he asked. "This is not the first time we've heard of cases like this where doctors want to write off the chance of recovery, and the family, when they're told this, will make a decision to end a person's life.
"In the case of Mr. Ramirez, he'd be dead now."
His siblings and parents refused to give him up for dead, and today, Jesse Ramirez is alive and conscious.
Two weeks ago, he was the center of a family battling over of whether he should live or die.
Now, he can hug and kiss, nod his head, answer yes and no questions, give a thumbs-up sign and sit in a chair.
A Miracle for Jesse Ramirez and His Family

My mom really liked Steven Segall. She didn’t really watch his movies but would just mention him now and again. Personally, I liked Mad tv’s impression of him more.
If you've seen one of his movies, you've seen them all.
The SCHIP bill takes funds away from disabled and seniors and moves it to the children. The SCHIP bill should be called the useless eater elimination plan. UEEP.
Every once in a while one gets caught.
Always ask what all the meds are and do not leave the facility. That is when bad things can happen if there is a rogue staff or doctor. Remember there is big money in organ harvesting. (the free part is the actual organ).
Speaking of same, did you see that video collage of Paris Hilton on one of the posts? It is stunning. Same face, same smile, many different pics.
Steven Seagal was nice to my wife but she had no idea who he was.
Give the airhead bimbo a break, her handlers tell her to smile and she smiles.
I'm sure Steven Seagal is nice, he's just a horrible actor and after you've seen him break a gun-wielding bad guy's arm once you really don't need to see it again.
I just heard that the “doctor” pleaded innocent.
I hope he gets what he deserves.
My dad lost his appetite because of the drugs, and mom insisted that he only take the drugs that he was taking before he entered the hospital - blood pressure, etc.
When the drugs were removed, dad got his appetite back.
I don’t think this hospital was trying to harm him, but doctors and hospitals can be very incompetent at times.
We should all put our heads together and write letters to editors warning folks about the kinds of things that go on, as you mentioned in your last post.
A most unkind cut...
Hopefully this case will grow more legs.
The San Francisco transplant surgeon charged with three felonies in connection with a failed organ harvest in San Luis Obispo last year was booked at County Jail late Tuesday and released after posting $10,000 bail.
Hootan Roozrokh, 33, is accused of dependent adult abuse, administering a harmful substance (a topical antiseptic) into a human, and prescribing excessive amounts of painkillers and sedatives.
The doctor looks forward to the opportunity to clear his good name in a court of law and re-establish his reputation as a distinguished and respected surgeon, according to a statement released by Roozrokhs lawyer, M. Gerald Schwartzbach, based in Marin County.
The local case is the first of its kind nationally against a transplant surgeon, and experts have cautioned its negative publicity could discourage potential organ donors and transplant surgeons.
Prosecutors allege that on Feb. 3, 2006, Roozrokh, acting as part of the Oakland-based California Transplant Donor Networks transplant team, attempted to hasten the death of a 25-year-old disabled man, Ruben Navarro.
A 38-year-old man who spent more than five years in a mute, barely conscious state as a result of a severe head injury is now communicating regularly with family members and recovering his ability to move after having his brain stimulated with pulses of electric current, neuroscientists are reporting.
"I still cry every time I see him, but now it's tears of joy," said the man's mother, in a conference call with reporters Wednesday. Her name was withheld, to protect the patient's privacy. "He can speak, he can watch movies without falling asleep, he can say Mom and Pop, and 'I love you, Mommy.' "
Doctors have long used the implant surgery, known as deep brain stimulation, to treat Parkinson's disease. Over the past two decades they have also performed it on a handful of people with brain injuries, including Terry Schiavo, the Florida woman who died in 2005 after her feeding tube was removed amid a national debate over her care.
In many of those cases, like Schiavo's, the brain was so profoundly damaged that the operation made no difference.
Here is another summary:
The doctors cautioned that their results, reported in today's issue of the journal Nature, would not apply to patients like Terri Schiavo, the Florida woman whose life became a sociopolitical flash point.
She was in a persistent vegetative state, whereas the male patient whose name was withheld had clung to consciousness and had large regions of his brain intact. Indeed, Schiavo was given a similar implant that had no effect.
Think of all the dangerous characters lurking around our schoolchildren these days: With all these threats to the safety and well-being of their students, guess who school authorities in the state of Florida have targeted with more than one prosecution? The answer: Two member of the Gideons International, those dangerous subversives who give away Bibles to anyone interested including students walking to and from school. ~Snip~
That might have been the end of it and the whole thing could have been chalked up to some bad decisions by inexperienced local officials. But this is Florida the state that gave Terri Schiavo the death penalty for her inability to eat without assistance. This is the state that might still be counting and recounting hanging chads if the U.S. Supreme Court didn't intervene.
With all these threats to the safety and well-being of their students, guess who school authorities in the state of Florida have targeted with more than one prosecution?

As I wait eagerly for that wall against illegals to be built, I read this!
Rep. Dave Reichert's 8th District voted twice against President Bush, but the GOP congressman will welcome Bush's fund-raising help next month while inadvertently underscoring the campaign themes of his election opponents.
Democratic congressional candidate Darcy Burner not the White House, and not Reichert's office said Wednesday that Bush will appear at a fund-raising reception for Reichert's 2008 re-election campaign and the state Republican Party in Bellevue Aug. 27.
Reichert has sought to portray himself as an independent lawmaker, pointing to his differences with the White House on such issues as his support for stem cell research and his vote against keeping brain-dead Terry Schiavo on life support.
The Rosa Parks of euthanasia is coming to Gainesville in October to proselytize for his cause at the invitation of a University of Florida student organization. But Jack Kevorkian is not coming just to spread his morally repugnant message of physician-assisted suicide. Hell be paid $50,000 for his trouble.
Only days after being released from a Michigan prison on parole for his second-degree murder conviction of a man suffering from Lou Gehrigs disease, Accent, UFs student speakers bureau, was the first to invite Kevorkian to speak about his immoral mission. According to Kevorkians attorney, the former pathologist has accepted the invitation and will earn the big paydayand its likely Kevorkians speech at UF will be his first, although other speaking requests are coming in.
Kevorkians Oct. 11 speech is drawing criticism from Bobby Schindler, brother of Terri Schindler Schiavo, the severely brain-damaged woman who died in 2005 after her feeding tube was removed by court order. As head of the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation, Schindler has begun a petition drive to UF president and the Student Government Association (of which Accent is a part) asking that the invitation to Kevorkian be rescinded.
It is unacceptable for the University of Florida to give a platform to Jack Kevorkian, a man who willfully helped take peoples lives, some of whose only ailment was depression, and pay him $50,000 to spread his violent message of mercy killing to the students of the University of Florida, the petition asserts. The petition can be accessed online at http://tool.donation-net./TSSF/DrDeath.cfm?dn=1068&refer=2000.
In the latest case study, neuroscientists describe how they implanted electrodes in the brain of a 38-year-old man who had been in a minimally conscious state for more than six years following a serious assault. By electrically stimulating a brain region called the central thalamus, they were able to help him name objects on request, make precise hand gestures, and chew food without the aid of a feeding tube (see page 600). The thalamus is involved in motor control, arousal and in relaying sensory signals from the visual systems, for example to the cerebral cortex, the part of the brain involved in consciousness.
NEW YORK - A brain-damaged man who could communicate only with slight eye or thumb movements for six years can speak again, after stimulating electrodes were placed in his brain, researchers report.
The 38-year-old also regained the ability to chew and swallow, which allows him to be spoon-fed, rather than relying on nourishment through a tube in his belly.
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The House of Representatives is expected to vote on a bill today that would significantly impact the abortion debate in the nation. The measure would undermine a current policy allowing states to provide medical coverage for pregnant women and their unborn children and could open the door for tax-funded abortions.
In 2002, the Department of Health and Human Services issued a regulation to allow states to cover mothers and their unborn babies under the SCHIP program for poor residents.
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A top pro-life organization is asking members of the House to vote against a bill concerning Medicare over concerns that it could lead to euthanasia. National Right to Life wants lawmakers to oppose the Children's Health and Medicare Protection Act (CHAMP Act) because it could ration lifesaving medical treatment.
NRLC says the bill, in its current form, would "prevent older Americans from protecting themselves from rationing."

SOUTHAMPTON, United Kingdom, August 1, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A National Health Service hospital lied to the mother of a miscarried baby, saying that they had cremated her child's body, when it was actually being stored in their pathology lab.
33-year old Lisa Bertelsen from Millbrook, Southampton wanted to have a memorial ceremony for her baby that she naturally miscarried in December of last year. The hospital contacted her to say that they still had the child's remains after preserving the body for sixth months.

Remember "Kurtlar Vadisi - Irak," the Turkish state-sponsored anti-American, anti-Semitic movie that alleges a new blood libel of Jewish, American, and U.S. Army doctors killing Muslims to harvest their organs? It starred Gary Busey as the Jewish-American Army doctor who killed Muslims for organs for Jews in New York, Tel Aviv, and London. Both I and my father, H.L. Schlussel, MD, wrote about it on this site.
Well, guess what? In real life, guess who's actually murdering whom to harvest organs? It's the other way around. A Muslim doctor, Dr. Hootan Roozrokh, murdered his patient to harvest his organs. And--surprise!--the Muslim doctor was raised here in America. So much for America moderating Muslims, more like the other way around (only no "moderating" involved). And this one is truly disgusting, since the victim is a helpless, disabled young person. Add Dr. Roozrokh to my list of Muslim Doctor Jihadists and Terrorists.
A doctor has been charged with deliberately hastening the death of a disabled man so that he could harvest his kidneys for another patient, in the first case of its kind in America.
CHICAGO (Reuters) - A man with severe brain injuries who spent six years in a near-vegetative state can now chew his food, watch a movie and talk with family thanks to a brain pacemaker that may change the way such patients are treated, U.S. researchers said on Wednesday.
A horrible case. Nancy Grace covered it the other day. I was going to post it, but couldn’t get on the Internet. She also supported Terri.
“The San Francisco transplant surgeon charged with three felonies in connection with a failed organ harvest in San Luis Obispo last year was booked at County Jail late Tuesday and released after posting $10,000 bail.”
Glad he was at least booked, but I wonder if he’s the only “doctor” who was ever charged for this kind of murder.
Do they remove the useable organs befor starving and dehydrating the patients? What percentage of patients has the organs removed first?
No. Removing vital organs kills the patient.
Loud alarm clock?
10k? That’s a pretty small amount to post bail for those kinds of felony charges. Yeah, why am I not surprised :(
I was reading, "Brain-Injured Man Speaks After 6 Years" by Malcolm Ritter, AP Science Writer, (New York - Aug 1, 2007 -AP) and I just knew somewhere in the article, it was going to suggest that this case was unlike Terri Schiavo's. Had to read almost to the end, but as faithful as the sun coming up every morning and going down every evening -- there it was. "He noted that a similar treatment did not help Terri Schiavo, the Florida woman in a vegetative state whose care triggered national controversy before her death in 2005. That's the typical outcome for electrical brain stimulation in vegetative states, he said."
The "Reagan Coalition," as Connor termed it, "brought the Republicans great success, including occupancy of the White House and twelve years of control over the House of Representatives."
According to Connor, a trial lawyer who represented former Florida Governor Jeb Bush in the Terri Schiavo case and who formerly headed up the powerful Washington, DC-based Family Research Council, "the most influential among the economic conservatives" are what he calls the "blue bloods"; they "are fiscally conservative, but often socially liberal." Connor's "blue bloods" are interested in "money and power and see politics as a means of increasing both." Contributing to political campaigns is seen as a "cost of doing business" and they expect to receive a "return on investment," which usually "comes in the form of tax breaks, financial subsidies, or limited accountability for their misconduct."
Dr. James Bernat, a professor of neurology at Dartmouth Medical School who didn't participate in the new work, called the Nature report exciting and important. Further study is needed to shed light on how many patients would respond and how to identify the minimally conscious patients with the best chance of being helped, he said.
He noted that a similar treatment did not help Terri Schiavo, the Florida woman in a vegetative state whose care triggered national controversy before her death in 2005. That's the typical outcome for electrical brain stimulation in vegetative states, he said.
I haven’t posted all the items today, but have to cut short for now. Numerous posts by wagglebee today to check out!
And those in power who could have saved Terri, refused to do it.
That way they don't have to look at facts. They simply repeat what they hear in their clique, whom they identify by pheromones and secret handshakes and Che Guevara tee shirts and sexual peculiarities and a wholly inexplicable capacity to admire Cindy Sheehan.
"Fiscally conservative" means socialist. Socially liberal also means socialist. A person who is fiscally conservative but socially liberal is a socialist's socialist and cannot be trusted with a hot stove. If you find one, call the guards and count your silverware.
In several articles where a person was described as “fiscally conservative” it meant he/she was not a conservative and this apparently was meant to confuse readers.
Isn't it wonderful what liberals can do with words?
The following is an excerpt from my upcoming book on exorcism. One chapter of the book is entitled, "Pro-Life and Exorcism" and is devoted to reflecting on the evil of abortion from a spiritual perspective. As a caution for those who may not be accustomed to the language of spiritual warfare, I would mention that the view of abortion contained in the passage below is derived primarily from Jesus' presentation of the devil as "a murderer from the beginning" (Jn 8:44) and from scriptural passages that identify other demons who collaborate with Satan in his attempt to destroy the very life of God's children. Make sure to pray as you read this passage.
The spiritual dimension of this grisly "business" is its systematizing of ritual blood sacrifice to the god of child murder, Moloch, who we know of from the severe condemnations of him in the Old Testament (Lev 18:21, 20:2-5, 1 Kings 11:5.33, 2 Kings 23:13 and Zephaniah 1:5). This demon of murder appears in many forms and cultures through history (Phoenician, Carthaginian, Canaanite, Celt, Indian, Aztec and others) but is always the same bloodthirsty beast that demands the killing of children as his form of worship. This demon is not content with a single act of murder here and there. His insatiable appetite for the death of innocents seeks public endorsement to justify his gruesome deeds, and he needs a systematic expression of it to increase his worship.
NEW YORK, August 2, 2007 (C-FAM.org) - At the latest round of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) Committee meetings in New York, members of the CEDAW committee criticized Hondurans for their pro-life laws, telling their delegation that the total ban on abortions is a crime. Committee member Heisoo Shin told the Honduran delegation that it was necessary for the government to create a momentum, a social force that stops the crime that allows a woman to die, to risk unsafe abortion and not have self-determination.
When the Honduran delegation responded that government efforts were aimed at prevention of early and unwanted pregnancies, CEDAW member Silvia Pimentel, faculty member at the Pontifical Catholic University of Sao Paulo, fired back that the government had been as comprehensive as possible on prevention and that there are situations where prevention is not enough. She continued, Women have their reasons to seek an abortion, which should be respected. Pimentel admitted that those reasons did not always include a threat to the mothers life, but that she could not understand the abortion ban in Honduras where the interests of the fetus outweigh those of the mother.
Hartford, CT (LifeNews.com) -- Police investigating a kidnapping and sexual abuse case in Connecticut have confirmed that a Planned Parenthood abortion business did an abortion on a 15 year-old girl who is the victim. The news is the latest in a string of cases across the country where abortions have been used to cover up cases of sexual abuse.
Authorities say the unnamed girl ran away from home last June to live with 41 year-old Adam Gault, who has plead guilty to a variety of charges in connection with the kidnapping and alleged sexual abuse.
After getting her pregnant, Gault reportedly took the girl to a Planned Parenthood in West Hartford where she had an abortion.
Wichita, KS (LifeNews.com) -- The controversial late-term abortion facility in Wichita is closed this weekend next while abortion practitioner George Tiller is arraigned on charges he did illegal abortions. Tiller has been charged by the state's attorney general with violating a law requiring the signature of a doctor vouching that the abortion is medically necessary.
Tiller is scheduled to be arraigned next Tuesday on 19 criminal counts of doing abortions in violation of the law and he could face 19 years in jail if convicted and sentenced to the maximum prison time.
As a result of the legal proceedings, Tiller is temporarily closing his Women's Health Care Services abortion business and referring women to abortion centers in Kansas City and Oklahoma.
thank you for #639 and 640! Blessings!
Wagglebee, That is exactly what I will do. I will start a memorial thread right away but please forgive me if I need to catch my breath.
Tim and I have been spending lots of private time discussing our own mortality in recent months and in our visits, would dwell on things to come.
He will be buried with his family in Wisconsin.
His wife filled me in today on what had happened and on his powerful last wish that the work of his life continue with all the force Our Lord may allow, to continue the fight for pro life and Terri's Legacy.
After I rest a bit,, I will fill in on details but all just know this. Nothing could be more important to his memory than for us to carry on as before.
His wife asked me to pass on if any one would care to send anything, to please send a donation to the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation that they may be able just a bit more to continue Terri's Legacy.
For now, I am asking all your prayers for his wife and family and for Tim's soul. My wife and I lost a precious friend...
"We will not be silent. We are your bad conscience. The White Rose will give you no rest."
8mm, prayers going up! I am deeply touched.
What did T’wit do for the National Review?
Please tell us more about his life, what you can share.
Tim would be shy that I divulge his role which was great, but now I will put together more. I will be starting a new thread. A hallmark of Tim was his modesty in disclosing his amazing talents and skills.
I will tell more on the new thread. It is still a shock that he won’t be here to respond to my post this morning.
