Necessary to adjust that to apply only to primate brains. Whales are pretty stupid when you get right down to it and their brains are constructed differently.

“Dumb” animals can learn *our* language well enough to associate a specific action/object/command/concept with them, yet we have not a single clue what *they* are saying.

Whales brains have a very large task-specific portion of their brain, which appears devoted to sonar and associated spatial navigation. As I recall, Neanderthal's brain is enlarged most prominently in the areas associated with the visual cortex and navigation.
