SENATE STAFFER BUSTED FOR CARRYING WEBB'S LOADED GUN: Phillip Thompson, executive assistant to Senator James Webb (D-VA ), has been arrested by Capitol Hill Police on Monday for 'inadvertently' holding the senator's loaded gun, according to a person close to the investigation. A Senate staffer reports that Thompson was arrested for carrying the gun in a bag through security at the Russell Senate Office building while the Senator was parking his car. Thompson was booked for carrying a pistol without a license (CPWL) and for possessing unregistered ammunition.
Statement by Jessica Smith, Webb Communications Director:
"To our knowledge, this incident was an oversight by the Senator's aide. Phillip Thompson is a former Marine, a long-term friend and trusted employee of the Senator. We are still awaiting facts." Developing...
I don't care if Webb is pro-gun or builds the damn things to sell on the streets.
His party rules the roost in DC and this is clearly a case of "Do as I say, not as I do". I don't think we can carry into ANY federal building ANYWHERE! And if he's so "pro-gun" what legislation has he introduced yet to expand gun rights on the Federal level? Can you say "suck-up"?
Webb probably told his boy to carry the bag in and that security wouldn't give him any hassle.
I wonder if he knew he was carrying the senator's gun.

Ok, when they say "gun" they literally mean "gun" right?...............This isn't one of those tawdry Webb metaphors?
Webb should have to resign immediately and be replaced by George Allen.
So is this a "two-fer" crime? In other words, does the law in DC also define the complementary crimes of giving a handgun to someone who is not registered to possess or carry one, and giving ammunition to someone who is not registered to possess that ammunition? It takes two to tango, doesn't it?
If so, when can we expect to see Senator Webb, his partner in this "crime", brought to justice (or at least arrested and prosecuted)?

Congressmen and Senators can have guns, but D.C. residents can't? My, my.
Why? Wouldn't it be interesting if the next time Stevens, or Kennedy, or Byrd, have the idea of slipping some more bridge building pork for their state into a war funding bill, they look up into the gallery and have to wonder, "Is someone watching, with a gun?"
Politics aside, I fiercely support the 2nd Amendment. I would HATE to see any goverment official or elected representative prosecuted for carrying a gun. This would set a terrible precident and strike a blow against gun rights.I have no problem with anybody carrying a gun. Carrying one INTO Congress is another story all together.
Heh, on the other hand, sometimes I think that our elected officials should be required to carry guns into congress. The entire world would be glued to C-SPAN.
We'll drop the charges if the guy rolls over on Webb. :)
I wonder is he might want to make good on them, or is totally paranoid because of what he said, and the ramifications of saying same..
In my mind after what Webb wrote in his "novel," he would never have been a viable senate contender, much less elected to the office. Virginia citizens, what is wrong with you??
Webb strikes me as kinda wacky.
