You are correct.
What the Democrats failed to mention was that they wish to make us all equal -- all equally enslaved to their huge government controlled plan.
After all we are all equal, however some are more equal than others.
Just ask Ted "1984" Kennedy. I want green power -- just not in his home state of Massachusetts.

exactly right! During the Civil War the democratic party did everything in its power to hamper Lincoln. They wanted a "negotiated" settlement. Any such settlement would have either recognized the southern states' right to maintain slavery or their right to secede from the Union. In short they wanted Lincoln to lose. It is no wonder that for 100 years after the war southern states were a Democratic electoral vote lock. What is amazing is why Black Americans gave their unquestioning allegiance to the party that undermined Lincoln in his quest for a free united America. It was no wonder that Lincoln arrested many democrats charging them with treason when they went too far. Of course his cause was more righteous than our present conflict but nonethelss there is a political party in the country that has a strange tendency to side with the enemy.

The tradition of defeat lives on. Was the Democrat Party founded in France?
