STRASBOURG -- Council of Europe Secretary General Terry Davis has condemned the Monday desecration of an orthodox church in Peć.
“I strongly condemn the desecration of St. John the Forerunner Orthodox Church in the Kosovo city of Peć. The Serbian Orthodox church had been damaged during the riots of March 2004 and renovated last year as part of a Council of Europe led program,” Davis said in a statement.
“Our organization was involved in the restoration because the damaged monuments are part of our common European heritage. The reconstruction was carried out by workers from all ethnic communities living in Kosovo and thus reinforced the sense of common ownership and the prospects for reconciliation,” he added.
“Those resorting to violence are threatening the future of everyone living in Kosovo. A future is more than a status. It is determined by the quality of life, not by the quantity of borders. If the people of Kosovo do not find the strength to free themselves from the grip of ethnic violence and hate, Kosovo will become a prison for the majority and the minorities alike, regardless of what the UN Security Council will eventually decide,” Davis concluded.
The church dedicated to St. John the Forerunner was broken into on Monday. The doors and all windows were broken, walls sprayed with offensive graffiti as well as those glorifying KLA and KPC, while the unidentified hooligans threw garbage all over the church.
Sorry people, last article was not working, this is real one.
"The reconstruction was carried out by workers from all ethnic communities living in Kosovo and thus reinforced the sense of common ownership and the prospects for reconciliation, he added."
Common ownership!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That holy temple belongs to God and the Serbian Orthodox people, not any stinking Albanian Mohammedans!
Did you include in your ping list the Freeper who'd wanted to see the true article?
The reconstruction was carried out by Albanians in many cases who know that if a church is destroyed they will get more money - most of it paid by Serbia and Serbian church funds - rebuilding again.
dont follow you on this one

I dont understand?
Hoppie's Heroes in action!
There are some people who believe the destruction of a Christian Church is a good thing, it's just surprising to find a couple of them here.
Common ownership?!

Typical liberal(whether liberal protestant or liberal non-Christian) ideology. The same attitude that is opening the door for the islamic conquest of both Europe and America!!!!
Yes. According to the "international communi(s)ty", the churches and monasteries are "Byzantino-Kosovar" or whatever... not Serbian.

The cemetery was also ruined while bones of the dead were scattered across the field. Police has found no one for this latest Jihad type attack on Kosovo's Christians.
Windows were broken all around the church
Threats of "terminations" were posted on walls...

Vandals then overturned the graves...
...took out the dead and scattered their bones.
MR. CASEY: Mr. Lambros, again, I think our position on this is quite clear. The United States supports a peaceful resolution of the issues related to Kosovo. We are not arming any parties in that.
QUESTION: Thank you
Clear as mud.
