VIDEO: Medieval Christian cemetery smashed to dust by Muslim militias without world protest

A video showing Muslim soldiers destroying an ancient Christian cemetery is posted at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZu2zqFE_gI. The vandalism of Djulfa archaeological site was compared to the destruction of the Bamiyan Buddhas, but the world kept silence.

Featuring a never-seen-before satellite image of a vandalized medieval cemetery at the Iranian-Azerbaijani border, "The New Tears of Araxes," a five-minute film, tells the tragic story of thousands of ancient Armenian headstones flattened to the ground by the Azerbaijani authorities in Djulfa (Jugha), Nakhichevan.

On December 15, 2005, eyewitnesses across the River Araxes videotaped Azeri soldiers destroying Armenian burial monuments - khachkars (cross stones) - some as old as 1,500 years. Azerbaijani officials denied the vandalism, but banned European Parliament members from visiting the site in March of 2006. Only a few outside news sources tried to publicize the tragedy.

"The New Tears of Araxes" is written by Sarah Pickman, a University of Chicago student, who was the only American reporter to cover the tragedy when she interned for Archaeology Magazine. Producer and narrator Simon Maghakyan, who is among America's top 20 college students according to USA TODAY (April 24, 2006), hopes the film will break a year of ignorance and silence. When asked why others should care, Maghakyan quotes Martin Luther King Jr. as saying, "Injustice anywhere is threat to justice everywhere."

Music by Djivan Gasparian (Gladiator, The Passion of the Christ, Munich, Syriana); Digital sound track production by Transtar Entertainment Group; Photographs by Research on Armenian Architecture, and Argam Ayvazian; Footage of 2005 destruction by Tabriz's Armenian Church, Iran; Satellite image by Digital Globe; Map by The Times, London. © Simon Maghakyan 2006.

Sadly, this would hardly make the news if it happened in N.Y. City.

...good question, but I think the prospect of spending eternity with 72 Anna Nicole Smiths is deterrant enough. :)

I doubt this will be shown on PBS or in the public schools.

That's it. Keep convincing yourself that Ilsma isn't the problem - your descendants will wear beards and burquas.

The west is losing a war it isn't even making an effort at fighting.

The only appropriate response to these savages is the same one we offered to Hitler and Tojo.

When, some decades ago, I visited Azerbajdzhan, the following story had just happened in Sumgait, an industrial place some 10 miles outside of Baku, their capital. There they had an evening school for the workers, and during the class, some of these workers [led by a decorated one, who had been given a medal for something] could not do any bertter than rape their teacher. Such types are barbarians regardless of religion, if only because they have not evolved far enough to grasp the "religion" concept. It is the "azerity".

According to http://blogian.net , free DVD copies of this film (in high resolution) can be ordered from info@blogian.net for educational purposes. Perhaps FOX would care a bit? Interestingly, New York Times' Nicholas Kristoff, who is Armenian, has not written one sentence on the Djulfa tragedy.

Islam encourages such behavior by viewing women as subservient and restricted to certtain role models in society.

Those women who act outside those role models are viewed much the same way as alleged "witches" in Medieval Europe.

Islam is an inherently flawed belief system because of its intrinsic intolerance - intolernace of democracy, of women, of animals, of other belief systems, and its need to dominate the world.

IT should be opposed every step of the way, and even thrown back and confined to the desert wastes of Arabia which spawned it.

They would be barbarians regardless of any nominal religion. Barbari sunt, barbarice egit. And BTW, that baboonery happened during soviet times, when there was a lid kept on islam there.

Its not just a Caucasian phenomenon.

Repete activties occur WHEREVER Islam is the predominamt religion, and even in Islamic communities isolated in non-Muslim areas - as in Canada, England, France, etc.

Its very unusual in non-Islamic countries.
