A suicide bomber has blown up his truck near a central Baghdad market, killing at least 102 people as shoppers were buying household items ahead of the night-time curfew.

Another 215 people were wounded in the gruesome attack in Baghdad's Al-Sadriya district, security and medical sources said Saturday.

The bombing was the worst attack this year and the second biggest after the Sadr City car bombings last November which killed more than 200 people.

Brigette Gabriel is correct. "Because They Hate"... doesn't matter who it is just as long as they are able to murder.

This is what our Senate wants to run from?

This kind of "bravery" by our enemies who blow up women and children in the marketplace.

Sickening.

The ones in the market do. The jihadists driving suicide truck bombs deserve to be eradicated from the face of the earth.

Don't let it get you down, Hippie. Depressing you and others is exactly why they are doing this crap. Don't give in to these sort of tactics.

wonder why the Iraqi police still allow trucks/cars near these market areas.

why not have the sellers park a short distance away, then place their goods on carts where they will be inspected by guards on the perimeter of the market.

They have to try something different. Anything

AND you are absolutely correct. Because They Hate should be required reading for every American - especially in the schools. Brigette doesn't mince words and anyone who listens can hear her message. I received the book for Christmas and it's already all marked up and highlighted.
Highly recommend it to everyone here.

I think that the Al-Sadriyah section is a Shi'ite stronghold, so I don't think this is from officially sponsored Iranian terrorism. I think that the best bet in this case would probably be Sunni terrorists.

Haven't heard of an Iranian suicide bombing in Iraq before.

That's EXACTLY what the terrorists want us to believe. Get pissed off, think it's hopeless, and leave. That's the plan, and it seems to be working.

Consider this. No matter how tragic this incident was, it only involved ONE suicide bomber and whatever infrastructure he needed to put together the exploding truck. If they were a huge operation, wouldn't you see tens of these bombings every day? Wouldn't you see tens if not hundreds of GIs getting blown up, too? No, the terrorists are a small minority.

The terrorists know they cannot possibly beat the US militarily. That's a simple fact, and both sides know it. What they CAN do is pick off a GI here or there or do periodic suicide bombings against defenseless civilians to create an appearance it's hopeless. They are essentially waging a PR campaign, and our media, for the most part, is a key part of it.

So, no matter how disgusting this is, think of it as a relatively small event in the scheme of things.

No doubt the Iranians are offering support. Whether we want to admit it or not, we are already battling Iran...now it is just a matter of how and how much.

You are right to say that these violent tactics are designed to get us to feel down.I keep focused on our troops and their morale..that helps a lot!

what I want to know is who is claiming responsibility? Shouldn't we be seeing some propaganda if it's home grown resistance?

If no one is claiming responsibility then it raises concern about the probability it is a foreign based attack. The surest way to make the Iraqis hate the Americans is for the Iranians to kill them indiscriminately. This makes the connection between lose of Saddam (by American hands) and lose of security. What happens when your government cannot protect your basic security? It ceases to be a just and viable government.
