I SIGNED A CONTRACT with Simon & Schuster two years ago to write a book about the Middle East, based on my personal observations as the Carter Center monitored three elections in Palestine and on my consultations with Israeli political leaders and peace activists...
The many controversial issues concerning Palestine and the path to peace for Israel are intensely debated among Israelis and throughout other nations but not in the United States. For the last 30 years, I have witnessed and experienced the severe restraints on any free and balanced discussion of the facts.
This reluctance to criticize any policies of the Israeli government is because of the extraordinary lobbying efforts of the American-Israel Political Action Committee and the absence of any significant contrary voices.
Book reviews in the mainstream media have been written mostly by representatives of Jewish organizations who would be unlikely to visit the occupied territories, and their primary criticism is that the book is anti-Israel. Two members of Congress have been publicly critical. Incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for instance, issued a statement (before the book was published) saying that "he does not speak for the Democratic Party on Israel." Some reviews posted on Amazon.com call me "anti-Semitic," and others accuse the book of "lies" and "distortions." A former Carter Center fellow has taken issue with it, and Alan Dershowitz called the book's title "indecent."
The ultimate purpose of my book is to present facts about the Middle East that are largely unknown in America.

Message to ex-President Carter:
Shut up and (fill in the blank).
I don't get the vaseline
So true. He hates Americans and America. Has no shame for his near destruction of this country. He is a pretender. Don't let his pretense of being a moral man blot out the pictures of him hugging up to Castro and Chavez.
Many farmers who made it through the Depression have low opinions of Jews, as a result of a single Jewish banker that had to call in their or their neighbor's loan.
He's a bit young for that, but he could have picked up the attitude from Miss Lillian or other peanut farmer relatives.
My wife's grandfather was that way, only knew one Jew in his whole life, but that one was a Banker. That was enough to sour him on all Jews. Bankers were not held in high regard by farmers of that generation.
No, a joke is either fumnny or amusing.
jimmy carter is many things but neither funny nor amusing is one of them
Largely unknown because they are only "facts" in the alternate universe which exists in Jimmy's mind.
And maybe he's a fraudulent, antisemitic fool. Yah think?
nobody takes this old nut seriously do they ?
Nobody with any intelligence does.
If you tried to put that peanut where monk wants Jimmuh to put it, you'd be sprinting for the vaseline in no time....
Oh yeah. The international zionist-Jewish conspiracy is out to crucify Jimmah just like you-know-who crucified whatshisname.
But he's not an antisemite. Thanks for clearing that detail up. Be sure and let us know when your book has been translated into Arabic and Farsi.
Now, I am sure that Jimmah and his minions (and his paymasters, Saudis or whomever) will suggest I'm just another Jew. Actually, I'm an Episcopalian descended mostly from Catholics, without a hint of the tribes of Israel as far back as the records go -- but while I may not be entitled to a yellow star, I'll wear one with pride if this crumb wants to pin one on me.

Hey, don't blame me, I voted for Jerry Ford. My first election, and every candidate I voted for lost in my state... I was out of step with Massachusetts even 30 years ago.

There is still a minority of older Americans in particular who particularly hold this man in high regard. You can fool some of the people ALL of the time!
I voted for Ford and Dole too, but I am not proud of that. Had I had it to do again, I think that I would have voted for Lester Maddox on a third party.
I know a devout Christian woman in GA (she formerly lived in TX) who would if necessary fist fight you in defense of GA Jimmy. She really believes in him!
