Bomb threat clears Lafayette Parish Courthouse (Louisiana)
Searchers with bomb-detecting dogs have cleared the Lafayette Parish Courthouse after a bomb threat was called into the district attorneys office earlier today, said Lafayette Parish Sheriffs Maj. Roy Frusha.
The courthouse was expected to reopen at 1:30 p.m., Frusha said.
The call was received at 11:25 a.m. from a cell phone, Frusha said. Investigators are working on tracing the calls owner.
A guy with a Middle Eastern accent called and said a bomb was on the sixth floor, Frusha said.
The courthouse was evacuated shortly after.
Bomb dogs cleared the sixth floors and then each floor was cleared as a precaution, he said. (snip)

Is organized crime the travel agency of the elusive Adnan El Shukrijumah?
Monday, October 16, 2006
Al Qaeda general Adnan El Shukrijumah really gets around. While his boss man, the world's most wanted terrorist, Osama bin Laden or his bones remain holed up in a cave, El Shukrijumah continues to be the world's most elusive terrorist globe trotter.
Plotting dirty bomb attacks on seven U.S. cities; Adnan El Shukrijumah could be in Britain, FBI sources said yesterday.(snip)

Kidnap Victim, Weapons Discovered; Terrorists Detained
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Oct. 16, 2006 Iraqi and coalition forces freed a kidnap victim and detained two terrorists in Muqdadiya, Iraq, and combined operations yielded more than 35 suspected insurgents and seven weapons caches last week in Anbar province, military officials in Iraq reported.
Iraqi army and coalition forces discovered a cache, freed a kidnap victim and detained two terrorists yesterday in the town of Muqdadiya.
Soldiers with the 3rd Brigade, 5th Iraqi Army Division, and Company A, 2nd Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, Task Force Lightning, discovered the cache and kidnap victim after a local citizen pointed to a building in the area while they were conducting a combined operation.
A search uncovered a grenade, a stick of TNT, one flare gun, and multiple fake improvised-explosive devices. The kidnap victim was found chained to a wall in the house next door. Two males were detained from the house where the cache was found.
The kidnap victim, detainees and the cache were transported to a secure location. The cache was later destroyed.
Elsewhere, Iraqi security forces, along with U.S. Marines, soldiers and sailors of Regimental Combat Team 7, detained more than 35 suspected insurgents and discovered more than seven weapons and munitions caches last week in western Anbar province.
Last weeks efforts yielded more than 11,300 pieces of munitions, bomb initiating devices, explosives, weapons and bomb-making material.
The week-long tally started Oct. 7 and ended Oct. 13.
Among the most significant finds: more than 6,500 rifle, pistol and machine gun rounds of various caliber; 70 explosive mortar rounds; five explosive rocket warheads; 30 rocket-propelled grenades; 2,000 sticks of plastic explosive; 34,500 feet of detonation chord; 400 roadside bomb-initiating devices; five machine guns; four AK-47 assault rifles; 17 suicide-bomb vests and other forms of explosives and equipment.

Afghan, Coalition Forces Destroy Terrorist Compound
American Forces Press Service
KABUL, Afghanistan, Oct. 16, 2006 An Afghan and coalition force destroyed a roadside-bomb-making cell today at a compound in Ghazni province, killing three terrorists and destroying the compound with precision air strikes, military officials here reported.
When the combined force attempted to peacefully search the compound and ask residents to come out for questioning, enemy personnel inside the compound began firing and wounded one coalition solider. The combined force called in close-air support and killed three suspects in the engagement.
Officials provided no information on the nationality or condition of the wounded coalition soldier.
During the engagement, a weapons cache blew up within the compound, causing extensive damage, officials said. When the combined force went back in to search the compound, soldiers found doors booby-trapped with grenades and rocket-propelled grenade rounds. Small arms and ammunition chest racks were found strewn around the courtyard.
When the combined force determined the area to be too dangerous for further searching and an imminent threat to local civilians due to booby traps and unexploded ordinance, a second precision strike was directed to destroy the explosives in the remaining compound buildings.
Based on credible intelligence, the combined force went to great lengths to ensure local civilians were not endangered, officials said. No women and children were present in the compound, which was only occupied by fighting-age males, officials added.
