Actually I don't think it is that unusual.

Illegals in particular don't use banks and deal in cash. That way they avoid the IRS and INS. If several families were pooling their resources to purchase a large refrigeration truck for a new business it wouldn't be that strange they'd try to use cash.

These types of people often buy cars with cash.

So do I, and I was born here, as were my parents and maternal grandparents.

So are you saying ANYONE that uses cash to make large purchases are suspect of something illegal?

How many illegals can they fit into a refrigeration truck and smuggle them across the border in that heat?

RE: Illegals in particular don't use banks and deal in cash.

That was then, now banks cater to them.

Our relater from years ago tells the story of the Chinese woman that bought a very nice house for herself and husband, and several houses nearby for the kids. It was millions of dollars.

At the closing of the deal the woman went to the back of her trunk to pull out the suitcases of cash to pay for it in whole. The realtor promptly got her (and the cash) to a bank.

This was awhile back when there was an influx of Chinese into Canada and then into the States - had something to do with a deadline of leaving China, not having to declare their money, etc. Not sure if the Chinese gal was trying to hide something or ignorant (or both?).

"These types of people often buy cars with cash."

Uh, I recently purchased a 2005 Chevy truck and paid over $25K in CASH for it. It's not just 'these kind of people' that like to deal with cash. BTW, I'm 5th generation Made in USA white Scotch/Irish self-employed male. Everything we own is paid for and has been done so with cash, even our home.

Mexicans and folks from other countries have always liked to deal with green money. They don't trust banks or cashiers checks as do lots of the old timers. Look at the Amish and the Mormons. They keep money in the form of cash, gold & silver so that it is readily available if the SHTF. Not a bad idea if you think about it.

My business (wild ginseng buyer) requires that I have large amounts of cash on hand to pay my customers. Next week I will be carrying upwards of 10K with me all the time. It's all legal and above board. I pay taxes and record all transactions. Am I a criminal? NO!

Under this ruling it seems to me that armored cars might be the next target as a source of revenue for the local authorities.

We are inching toward a Police State more and more everyday under the auspices of the war on drugs, war on terror etc. It's past time for us to wake up.

Not just illegals. A lot of Asian immigrants just won't trust banks.

If they're here illegally, I have no sympathy for them. They have saved themselves $100K by working hard, etc. but they have also cost the US taxpayer more than that in undeserved medical and educational benefits.
