To: Alouette; IAF ThunderPilot

Thank you Alouette, and even though I couldn't remember ThunderPilot's name properly I've thought of him often since this started. Someone else here mentioned to me that he is serving.

Prayers for Israel.

To the general posts here:

You may be assured my friends that I support Israel. I am a retired US military officer, 35+ years in uniform. I go to Israel and around there in the region every year; last year to Israel, Egypt and Jordan. Was in Amman on the first day of Ramadan in 2005, in Jerusalam two days later watching Jews and Palestinian Arab Muslims celebrate Passover and Ramadan, shoulder to shoulder, with their children, and not one problem even in the crowd such as I had never seen in Jerusalem. I am going back to Israel, and around, maybe to Egypt, Jordan again, Lebanon, Syria, possibly even Iraq, without much fear again this year from Sept-Nov. I support an Israeli doctoral student in underwater archaeology study, am financing the student and the student's project with personal funds, fundraising. I will do the same for a Palestinian Muslim if the occasion arises. If any wish to contribute to these efforts at peace, contact me at silveroyster41@aol.com

Been out of the Army since 1989 (36C10/31L10) 39 years old, smoker, gained some weight since my Army days and have a slight upper back/neck problem. There's no way I could be of any use to the IDF. I offer my prayers, however. I speak and read absolutely no Hebrew, either.

I would never ask any soldier to go against his Oath, I took the Oath and even though I don not currently serve I still believe in it.

I live in one of the most conservative states of this Union and I can not believe how even the average Midwesterner does not get the current battle we are facing.

I talk to average Midwesterners, fly over country, the heart land and still so very few of them understand the actual enemy we face, it is quite disheartening to say the least.

I hear form so many that Israel is just as big a terrorist as Hezbollah.

If I thought that the average Citizen understood what we were facing then I would never contemplate serving under a foreign government.

As for giving up your citizenship that is not necessarily so, SCOTUS has already ruled in a case involving a person serving in the IDF that he had no actual intention of giving up his citizenship.

No, thanks. While my sympathies lie strongly with Israel, I won't fight for another country. Further, I believe it is reckless and wrong to incite other American veterans to do so, particularly since you aren't telling folks that swearing allegiance to another country, wearing its uniform and fighting its wars under its flag, risks loss of American citizenship. As it should.

You wrote that you have "1 condition for Israel..."

Well, here's news, Soldier of Fortune: sovereign countries usually don't solicit the opinions of foreign busybodies, much less pay attention to their demands. They establish the conditions of enlistment, not you.

".....I have lost faith in the US public to understand the battle we are currently fighting...."

That is a mark of intelligence. No one has ever gone broke or hungry betting on the stupidity of the American public.

"..... I do not think the majority of the US public understands the enemy we are facing...."

They don't nor do they wish to learn.

If Israel called, if the US agreed that there would be no penalty, if a US commander were in place as an advisor, if US military protocol were observed, if it were understood that I was an American volunteer and if they accepted Catholics, sure, I'm there.

You are a good man. You may be doing what a lot of people want to do. Good or bad, situations like this define your life. I am 64 years old and I took a lot of risks, but looking back I wish that I had taken more.

You have mistaken my sympathies for a foreign government when in actuality it is a an absolute wish to fight and DEESTROY my enemy and defend my Constitution against all enemies, Foreign or Domestic, too which I do solemnly swear, so help me God.

If My country is unable or unwilling to defended itself, then it is my DUTY to do so under any means possible.

Would if I could.

I served the US until I was physically incapable. I'd be honored to do the same for Eretz Israel.

Might be difficult to find a Baptist Chaplain over there though :)

"I wish I could do something, but I am 56 years old. Aside from cheering from the side lines, any suggestions?"

I'm with you ol timer. I'm 62 and in pretty good shape and just chomping at the bits

First of all, if it were possible for ol codgers like us (and I am convinced that we who have military experience and knowledge, like mine in Military Intelligence could contribute to a substantial degree) I would first and foremost, join OUR military.

On the other hand, if I were younger, I might consider joining the IDF, providing the language barriers and citizenship obstacles could be overcome.

hmmmm very interesting question. I have been admiring them over the past three weeks. They have admirable courage. I would, as another Freeper stated, seriously consider it if my country asked for our help as prior service SME's then heck yeah (boy would my hubby be pissed). I would like to work my craft with their people.

Thank you for the service Church16. Like you, I am willing to end terrorism and promote love, peace, and freedom. I would like to fight for my own country first.

I also understand the hosts feelings about doing the job right. I don't think anyone likes to start something and leave it undone (except for the UN).

I am older now, but at the age of eighteen I was standing at the wall in West Germany waiting for T72s to come. I love my country and just let somebody shoot 2000 missiles into my her. I will be there to protect and defend her no matter how dang old I get. I think there are enough Israeli's that feel like me. I also see that Israel already has a very strong military. To the IDF, it would probably be an embarrassment to start something and then ask others to finish it for them. I think Israel can defend herself. I often find my self thinking about defending Israel but in a different way. When the buses where blowing up, I was sending money to Israel. I think I put my money where my mouth is.

I also Bless Israel with my prayers. I think the Lord has already Blessed her because those 2000 plus missiles could have done a lot more damage then they did. I don't know if others can see it, but I see that God is not neutral when it comes to Israel. I think the Lord has it all under control. May be a naive way to go, but it gets me through tough times.

I also know that tough times never last but tough people do.

In just a few days I will be turning 60, if I were in my 20s I would consider it a privilege to serve in the IDF, even though I’m not Jewish … because I think their fight is right. I did have the honor to serve in my country’s service in the late 60s (volunteered, not drafted).
