‘South Park’ angers Bosnian Muslim leaders

Sarajevo • Bosnian Islamic leaders voiced anger yesterday after a local television station aired an episode of the popular US cartoon South Park depicting Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him).

“The broadcast (of the cartoon) is unacceptable and we condemn it and consider it to be a kind of provocation,” Enes Ljevakovic, head of a Bosnian Islamic council, said.

“According to Islamic tradition, the presentation of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) or any other prophet is unacceptable ... even if their presentation is not sarcastic but in positive light,” Ljevakovic said.

“The cartoon was even censored in the United States ... and that is what the local Bosnian television station should have done as well,” he added.

OBN defended its decision to air the show, saying the cartoon presented prophets in a positive light that could be considered as a lesson in morality.

Some 40 percent of Bosnia’s 3.8 million inhabitants are Muslims. Orthodox Christian Serbs represent about 31 percent, while Roman Catholic Croats account for around 10 per cent.

Guess Bosnian TV isn't quite as sensitive as American TV.

So that must mean that Bosnians have more freedom of speech than Americans do. Thats how I see it. The American press is always going on about freedom of speech, yet the painty wastes don't even think twice about censuring SP. This was brilliantly exposed by the writers of the show and is even more evident with the Bosnian situation. Sad for the U.S.

"But by demonizing the religion as a whole we come to a point where the logical result can only be conversion or genocide."

Neo-Ottomanism, this is precisely what's happening in Europe, If you want to be a dhimmi, go right ahead, just put your lips between your arse cheeks and kiss it good bye.

As a couple of other posters pointed out, the cartoon was not censored. These intellectual giants in Bosnia are complaining about a cartoon they haven't seen because the Bosnian image is the same as the U.S. image. The whole point of the episode was that blacked out "image". There is no depiction of Mohammed.

Assuming that 'spokesmen' for this particular philosophy have got the facts wrong until proven otherwise seems like a safe course of action.

Ok. Thanks. I thought the article said that in their version that the image of the "prophet" was NOT censured. My mistake.

That is what the 'spokesmen' said - but there was no U.S. censoring. SP produced the episode with the blacked out image, there is no other 'uncensored' image. These bright fellows are indignant about a cartoon they haven't seen. The episode doesn't show what they claim it does.

Actually, there's no big difference to the christian church...

No, no difference at all. When I watched that second plane hit the WTC, I wondered whether it was a muslim, a Baptist, or a Lutheran.

Tune back in to reality. The Church didn't engage in warfare for the first several hundred years, really until it was surrounded by Islam - a religion which engaged in warfare from day one. Have you ever considered the fact that the "Christian" nation most responsible for the acts you mention had been dominated - and therefore influenced - by islam for 700 years?

IOW, Christians killed in spite of the teachings of Jesus, while muslims kill because of the teachings of muhammed. The Church was peaceful for hundreds of years, went through the defensive crusade period and then the conquistador period, and was eventually restored to the foundations of Jesus. Islamists slaughtered the "infidel" while muhammed was alive, and have never taken a break as long as their strength permitted.

Other than that small difference, and a couple of hundred others, they're exactly the same.

I think they are referring to a much earlier episode pre-911 where Mohammed is shown with Jesus, Moses, and Buddha.

The controversial episode referred to the riots over cartoons.

They'll go after any religion except Mohammedanism because they're afraid of Mohammedans.

Your ignorance shows again. Only someone living on Mars could have missed their bearding of the Religion Of Peace a few months back (especially after Comedy Central, not the South Park creators, chickened out).

No. How's about rearming the Serbs and embargoing all aid to the Muslims, then bombing the living shit out of what's left, so that not one stone remains on top of another in the cancerous Muslim enclaves.

I would like to agree with you regarding your hopeful idea of Islam getting a leader (reformer) like Martin Luther, but that would have to be based on the belief that allah is God. I don't believe he is. Please remember that Roman Catholics are Christians based on one God made up of three Persons in God. I think what we are seeing from Islam is the true fundamental evil of Satan, not just the misguided beliefs and mistaken actions of the general Islam religious body.I'm not sure that God would bless that enough to be reformed.

I'm not saying that the Spanish conquistadors were "saints." But neither were the Mayans or Aztecs. All their sacrifices were not voluntary, many were captives in war, tied up, drugged and slaughtered. I am not sure I would have the stomach to watch this and think, oh well just a different point of view in which I have to live.

That being said, there is a Catholic priest from Spain (I can't remember his name) that has a checkered history at best because he did the most work in translating the Mayan language, but then destroyed all of the Mayan writings he could find because they kept going back to their native religion, including human sacrifices. I think this is a sad historical conclusion to a conflict of cultures.

I can understand both point of views, his frustration in trying to end what he thought was barbaric acts, and their stubbornness in holding on to their culture(I would do the same if someone invaded my country and tried to do the same to me.)

By the way the Spanish did not conquer the Mayan Empire. It was in ruins long before the Columbus landed. They found ruins of the Empire and what was left of the Mayan people as they explored the Yucatan Peninsula.

I have a lot of respect for the Mayan people. I spent three weeks in the Yucatan studying the culture and ruins. They look at themselves as "Yucatecs" before they think of themselves as "Mexicans"(kind of like Texans in this country :)"

I have seen the Christian torture chambers of Europe, their barbaric instruments, and the pits they threw people in to die after their torture. It shouldn't have been that shocking.

"Neo-Ottomanism, this is precisely what's happening in Europe, If you want to be a dhimmi, go right ahead, just put your lips between your arse cheeks and kiss it good bye."

From you comments I take it as given that you live somewhere where you are not in touch with everyday Muslims. The kind that opens a deli store, works his ass off 24/7 to give his children the possibility to become lawyers and doctors, or the 2nd or 3rd generation that either continue their fathers immigrant success story or become useless pieces of shit like normal children do. I don't think I am a dhimmi just because these people tend to my garbage, sell me their specialities, study at my university, work out in my fitness center and stuff like that. I tend to exchange jokes with the ones I know better about eating pork or not being able to enjoy alcohol at parties (something rather unusual in Germany). They aren't all religious, and I think about 2 of the maybe 100 religious ones I got to know better were fanatics. Even they weren't exactly worse or more lunatic than the Neo Nazis or Left Wing Crazies. And, interesting enough, those respected me because I was a Christian who had read the scripture, and not an atheist.

Anyway, because of my experiences with people from the Middle East, I don't blame every Muslim for radical Islamism which is a danger to western society and must be fought. But making it simple, making it a two front war of religion (religion isn't the main topic here, or they would have flewn into, well, the Vatican instead of the WTC), means blowing the problem up. Because it will work. If you fight them as a whole (what most of them don't deserve), they will fight back as a whole, sooner or later. What we have to find out, and find out fast, is how we can first thin out the Radicals, deprive them of their financial sources, and at the same time deprive them of their soil in the Middle East. My moderation in this topic does not come from being a coward, it comes from meeting many Muslims who were actually decent people. From your posts I take it as given that you didn't met these, that you probably didn't meet any.
