Rudy for president?

Well-connected public figures report that they have been told recently by Rudolph Giuliani that, as of now, he intends to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008.

The former mayor of New York was on top of last month's national Gallup poll measuring presidential preferences by registered Republicans, with 29 percent. Sen. John McCain's 24 percent was second, with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich third at 8 percent. National polls all year have shown Giuliani running either first or second to McCain, with the rest of the presidential possibilities far behind.

Republican insiders respond to these numbers by saying rank-and-file GOP voters will abandon Giuliani once they realize his position on abortion, gay rights and gun control. Party strategists calculate that if he actually runs, he must change on at least one of these issues.

I think you are right... especially when you get him following Rush and can see the intellectual differences.

Notice how all the people in the background are looking the other way.

Well,,,Sean also "likes" Liebermann and Rangel.

I suppose he feels a need to keep the door open to McCain for ratings sake.

Francis it's too early in the day...
A recruit once said that to me, but I yanked him off of the top bunk and onto the concrete floor anyway...

Francis....that sounds pretty gay.

Yeah those phone calls that McCain himself was making and blaming Bush for them was really something there wasn't it?

Issues such as... say the partial birth abortion ban that president bush signed? Issues such as the assault weapons ban which would have come up for renewal? Issues such as illegal immigration where rudy declared new york a sanctuary for illegal aliens? Issues such as gay rights in this whole gay marriage bruha? Issues such as a moral center where value voters put president bush over the top?

Nice try

That would work for me.

An Allen-Rice-Guiliani ticket
would clobber a Clinton-Obama-Richardson
ticket

Most republicans arent paying attention right now and don't really care at this point. Remember, only the most motivated go out and vote in the primary and there not likely to be the lib republicans.

Unfortunately rudy seems to steal all of the credit for a lot of bratton's successes and a lot of his fans seem to neglect that

No question Newt is perhaps the best idea man in politics. But he just carries too much baggage. A polarizing figure like Hillary. He simply can't win.

In other words, the City wanted to deal with illegal immigrants in a manner that suited the city -- and only the city.

Which makes a lot of sense considering that he was the Mayor.

I despised a lot of what Giuliani did, he made life in the city so much more uptight.

But he is not running against any perfect human being.

Of what's available, no one comes close.

Still I do enjoy people like you telling me what I will think, do and say in the future. Personally, I change my mind based on facts and evidence. At the time Reagan died I thought Bush may surpass him as a great President. Today, I consider Bush a failure who will leave a terrible mess.

I may consider Giuliani a failure too. But at least I want to start the decision process with the best available candidate.

There are stories out there that he has no friends in the Senate because of his hair trigger temper

Don't forget romney supporters now, they tend to pull the same stuff. Although romney supporters tend to be more noticable on blogs such as redstate and the left leaning ones. I suspect alot of romney supporters are former rudy supporters who werent sure if he was running

Why do you desire to hasten the demise of this great nation?
Spare us from further social liberalism disease. It's destroying and rotting this nation from the inside.

Ridiculous.

If the current group of elected repubs W and George Allen included have a conservative governing philosophy....or even any governing philosophy
I can't see it.

Rudy ...Newt also...is able articulate the benefits of fiscal discipline, smaller government, linking National security with the securing the borders.
He promotes vouchers ...remember those? Tax reform...Tort reform...
These issues have been ignored for far to long. All the issues that social conservatives only give lip service to. Just because some politician meets the social rights litmus test doesn't qualify them to be POTUS.

There are enough conservatives in there to nominate allen, and allen would clean the clock with a bayh or a warner. Warner was too scared to challenge him for senate in 2006 knowing allen would beat him. All of allen's state wide opponents have been moderate/conservative dems, he has experince with t hem. Also remember that allen has had the toughest elections of any of the candidates running.

Don't forget now, allen will have rush and hannity cheering him on, they've practically endorsed the guy.

I'd certainly prefer Rudy to Hillary. I might get flamed, but I'd prefer him over McCain too.

There are a few conditions..........

You forget rudy's numerous affairs and personal life which reads like a triple x novel. That won't fly well.

Also remember rudy is short and bald. A 5'4 short balding rudy will look silly next to a 6'4 allen.

No, rudy didn't have the same policy as other big city mayors. Other big city mayors didn't ignore the law and declare their cities sanctuary and sue up to the supreme court.

You really ought to read tom coburn's book "Breach of trust" for a better look at newt. He's not quite the hero everyone percieves him to be and he will cave easily.
