In the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, homosexuals were jailed for five years. Homosexuality was classified as a "mental disorder" -- which is what our Catholic "Catechism" calls it, a "disorder."

The decriminalization of homosexuality occurred in 1993, after the fall of the Soviet Union. Now, homosexuals have come out of the closet -- and not surprisingly -- they want to hold their first "Gay Pride" parade or march in Moscow. According to the British newspaper "Independent" (Feb. 17), the "Chief Mufti Talgat Tadzhuddin warned that Russia's Muslims would stage violent protests if the march went ahead. 'If they come out on to the streets anyway, they should be flogged. Any normal person would do that -- Muslims and Orthodox Christians alike.'" Indeed, the Russian Orthodox Church joined in by saying the parade would be "propaganda for sin."

Russia's Chief Rabbi Berl Lazar has come out against the parade by saying, according to LifeSiteNews.com (Feb. 17), that "any organization that forwards 'sexual perversions' does not have a right to exist." The Mayor of Moscow, Sergei Tsoi, said that Moscow "will not allow the conduct of a gay parade in any form -- neither open, nor indirect, and all attempts to organize non-sanctioned action will be severely repressed."

You will notice that banning the parade is not very democratic, it suppresses liberty and freedom. President Bush is worried that Vladimir Putin is heading toward an authoritarian regime. Dare we say it? There might be something good about an authoritarian state.

"There might be something good about an authoritarian state."

Lately, the Democrats and other assorted leftists have been working overtime trying to prove that democracy doesn't work. They seem to be succeeding.

Democracy doesn't work. They become mob rule.
Republics work. If you can keep them.

Throughout recorded history, it has been seen that most authoritarian states are to the detriment of the populace. Good kings are rare, and good dictators rarer still.

Since as long as I can remember, the democrats and other assorted leftists have been working to prove that as long as they aren't winning elections, democracy doesn't work.

Eventually the 1-3%s( insert your own nomenclature) will grow accustomed or bored with Gay-Lesbian-Transgender-Crossdresser XXX parades. They will stoop lower & lower and initiate incest-NAMBLA-pedophile- beastiality-necrophilia parades. Libs will initially tolerate, then welcome & encourage, and finally fund the parades....Good Lord, I think we all need to pray harder,... much harder to halt Satan's reach into their souls. May God Bless the Orthodox Church and give them courage and strength to stand for God's teachings.

Idiot.

Democracy is about elections, you could vote for a dictator every few years if that is the system of government you have.

Liberty and freedom are seperate ideals from democracy, they may go together and there may be a strong cause and effect or correlation, but the 2 are not "joined at the hip".

And parades have absolutly nothing to do with liberty or democracy anyway.

What is not democratic, about banning a bunch of gay freaks from putting on outrageous outfits cavorting in a lewd manner in public?
I strongly back the mayor of Moscow.
Every country has laws that reflect the culture of that country. The fact that the British do that BS in London doesn't mean Moscow has to do it too. Take that and chew upon it Ken Livingston.

No, I don't notice that at all.

Allowing the parade is undemocratic since the majority are opposed to it.

Actually bannign a parade is very democratic. If you aren't 51% of the population you get no parade. See that's democracy at it's best.

Even a blind squirrel like communism can find a nut occasionally.

Homosexuality IS a mental disorder.

Ah, yes. It's obviously very "anti-democratic" if every degenerate and pervert isn't allowed to parade in full glory.

We all know that. Democracy equals acceptance of degenerate idiocy, after all. Equality demands it.

The author of this incoherent rant is attempting to turn a well-founded aversion to communism into a reason for homosexuals to prance (yes, prance) around the streets of Moscow. Pure non sequitor.
