Please Remove My Nonsensical Asian Tattoo
Monday , May 08, 2006
By Michael Y. Park
She thought it said "blood and guts," but it really said "blood and intestines." He thought it said "rock 'n' roll," but it really said "to sway and to roll."
The touchy-feely, quasi-spiritual trend of getting Asian-language tattoos became popular in the 1990s. For many youngsters, or for people who wanted to feel young, a tat with the characters for peace and truth seemed just the thing.
But now that the fad-following hipsters of a decade and a half ago have graduated to jobs and families, they are going to tattoo-removal specialists in droves, trying to erase an embarrassing reminder of the mistake they made one drunken night so many years ago: They were permanently inked with an Asian-language word that didnt say quite what they thought it did.
(Excerpt) Read more at foxnews.com ...
1. Tattoos last the rest of your life.
2. I do not think that the stuff I liked ten years ago is still cool.
3. Extrapolating 2 forwards, the stuff that I like now will not be cool ten years from now.
4. Therefore, any tattoo I get, which will last the rest of my life, will not be cool ten years from now, assuming that it's actually cool in the first place.
Or
"Hey, look at me, I'm a disfigured dumb***"
Everything you said about tattoos is true and in 30 to 40 years after you get your Asian language tattoo, you wouldn't be able to read it anyway because it will just be a blue blob.
Now that I can date women younger than my tattoos...they are cool again.
Brands only belong on cattle.
That's exactly how I look at it too.
Actually, I know of one good use for a tattoo, and it has nothing to do with coolness: Coptic Christians, particularly those living in Egypt, often have a cross tattooed on the back of their hand. Very gutsy, since it could be an invitation to martyrdom (in the true and original meaning of the word).
I'm SO sure this thread will bring out the best in FR...
just like the other tattoo threads....
ummmm thanks for proving my point....I knew it wouldn't take too long, this is FR after all....
BTW I have 3 tattoos....All of which are in English (well one has a Latin phrase on it, but I KNOW what it means)....
And that's cool.
thanks!
My daughter just got her first tattoo, but she doesn't have to worry about any of the problems with aging or whether it stays cool, or anything else that would make her want to remove it. The tattoo was done with an ink that is only visible under black light.
I guess I have not kept up with all of the other tattoo threads...this is the first time I have posted re: tattoos.
I can see that this can hit a nerve. I have no problems with tattoos...so long as they are placed in a clean environment by someone with some credibility(and one does not get Hep C, Hep B, a staph infection or other complications).
Also, if one chooses to get a tattoo one should realize that others may not respond to it as you would hope...certainly do not want to sterotype but depending upon the job or position you desire, it can negatively influence your chances...
Run. Don't walk. /s
