NEW YORK  — Most Americans think the nation’s current gas price situation is a problem, but they do not describe it as a crisis. Less than half say their family is making a significant effort to conserve. In addition, a clear majority would rather let gas prices fluctuate based on supply and demand than have the government regulate prices and ration gas supplies. These are just some of the finding of a new national FOX News poll.

As the national average price of gasoline nears $3 dollars a gallon and all of Washington is working on the issue, the new poll finds that most Americans have yet to hit the panic button. A 52 percent majority says they think the current situation is best described as a "major problem, but not a crisis," another 13 percent call it a "minor problem" and 2 percent say "not a problem at all."

About a third of Americans say they would describe the current situation as a crisis (32 percent).

Democrats are 17 percentage points more likely than Republicans, and families making less than $50,000 are 16 percentage points more likely than those from higher income families to say the gas price situation is a crisis.

In the depths of the article....

Fully 79 percent of Americans think giving tax incentives to companies to encourage development of alternatives fuel would help the energy situation, and 68 percent think it would help to drill in the Alaskan Wildlife Refuge and the Gulf of Mexico.

This is the Rats problem and has been for 12+ years, they've pandered to the minority groups in their party that now the minority groups have become the majority in their party. They'll never go for ANWR.

Let's hope the Repubs can put together a coherent, pounding message to drive this home.

The public is smarter then they look.... but then we have the "But not in my neighborhood" effect....

I'm sure you have seen the Dem Governor candidates in CA bragging about how the will "stand up to Bush and Big Oil" to prevent any off shore drilling in CA...

Dem's...One side of there mouth bitch about the price of gas and out the other side saying they will stop any possible new oil production...duh... stupid... these two things supply and price do tend to go hand and hand....

And these numbers explain why Congress was mocked so much last week for their Marxist solutions. LOL

I was on a thread yesterday with someone that claimed people were moving Left and republicans were having to adapat to that. I'm finding a hard time believing that to be the case.

It's taken years but we've gotten the word out on ANWR and capitalism and tax breaks in this industry. I'm curious when Congress will finally get onboard with the American people here.

The cost of gas has taken Americans focus off Bushs' fiasco concerning our open border. A place he can't win. Media trying to change the subject from open borders to expensive gas.
