Iran - Another Iraq in the Making?
ChronWatch ^ | April 21, 2006 | J. B. Williams

The international community is speeding down the same track that led to U.S. military intervention in Iraq. Four key components caused the U.S.-led invasion in Iraq and those same components are in play now regarding Iran. If the international community plays out its hand just as it did in the case of Iraq, we will find ourselves achieving the exact same result, or even worse.

1 – The mad man at the helm component

2 – The ongoing threat of long range international terrorism component

3 – The if we ignore them, they will go away component (A and B)

4 – The reliable ole USA component

Don't think so. Iran is more modern, western, smarted more educated, and READY AND ABLE TO HANDLE a change of Government. It will happen and the MSM will give Bush NO credit.

I doubt we'll send ground troops into Iran. They're fiercely nationalistic. Better to do some pinpoint bombing on coordination with the opposition already there.

Yes, the USA will have to take care of Iran and likely with less help than in Iraq. We are the only people willing to take on such a challenge and the fact that others are so stupid is not an excuse for us to commit suicide. No need to wait for thanks, none will be forthcoming. But peace can result from the removal of madmen.

Hope you are right, but I'm having trouble mustering faith in the same Iranian people who elected this nut-job President and remain silent every time he calls for the destruction of Israel...?

Was there ever any DOUBT that the Islamic militants of Iran would do everything they could to engage the US in an armed confrontation? They have been throwing out provocation after provocation, seeing just how outrageously they could behave before the US finally says "NO MAS!"

Do not poke sticks at big powerful entities. The response may be totally asymmetrical.

Like an avalanche.

If the Iranians are so determined to have a nuke, I say we just send them a couple of ours--special delivery.

I like the way he thinks.

But not as much as letting them develop the nukes they seek...

Did anyone happen to catch the special on Iran last night on the History Channel? It was the first time I had seen it and it was a real eye-opener, for me anyway.

I never quite understood the close relationship we had with Iran when the Shah was in power. Since I have been around, America has always viewed them as the enemy. I knew bits and pieces of our past relationship with them but the special last night was enlightening.

I do believe we will have to confront Iran in the future.

I think that the 'election' of Ahmadi-nejad may have been about like the election of Daly as mayor of Chicago or JFK as president.

Yeah, that's the old rock and hard place thing. Either way the decision is less than wonderful.

"Did anyone happen to catch the special on Iran last night on the History Channel?"

I did, and IMHO, it's a "Don't Miss It". It was very informative.

Showing how Iran has been waiting and planning for a DIRECT confrontation with the US since trying to "reconstitute" the Shah's nuclear program from 1983 or so, until the present, makes me think they might already be "ready-to-play" the nuclear exchange "game".

One can only hope that the idiot President of Iran is pulled out of a spider hole by US troops while the Iran's nuclear program is dismantled.

Iran and the US have been at war since 1979.

The current rhetoric from the leaders of Iran displays panic as their power slips away.

All some societies need is constant pressure from abroad as the domestic economy crumbles.

The case with the Soviet Union speeded up in a speedier world.

When the shift comes in Iran...it will come from inside the military.
