If you would like on or off my ping list please Freepmail me
The closest thing to an interesting guest for me this week is James Sensenbrenner, who will probably get trashed. How badly will they tilt the questioning? Beyond Sensenbrenner, we have many of the regulars back on (but no Joe Biden).
McCain/Obama/Hagel/Graham/Feingold/Durbin/Franken are aboard, and mini-me himself, Robert Reich, also appears (he's short, you know).
The dominant meme appears to be that Bush the GOP is truly screwed over immigration, those who oppose amnesty or argue for a secure border are NAZIs/Communist boarder guards, and we should look to the illegal immigrants as the best source for saving the country, since we can't survive without them. Vicente Fox for US President anyone? Oh, and we've lost in Iraq and Iran, let's go home now run away now and beg for forgiveness. We'll do it eventually, so lets just get it out of the way so that the French will love us again.
On a personal note, I got a call from my doctor's office today that my new glasses are in and I have an appointment for Saturday afternoon to pick them up and get checked out. I have no idea how well I'll be able to deal with that, but it lets me believe that there is a way out of my recent soap opera. I'll be around as much as I can on both this thread and the Sunday thread, but those of you who have ever gotten a new pair of glasses may be able to imagine what I'm up against, and I haven't worn anything but contact lenses for 35 years, so I might have just a slight delay in easily adapting to them.
I've been asked to fill in for the top 10 on the Sunday thread (RodGuy911 is at his daughter's wedding this weekend). I'd like to solicit pings and comments from folks, you folks in particular, on posts that are worthy of mention or award this weekend. The fact that I didn't get through all of last weeks thread yet might give you a clue why. Also, I don't want to limit myself to my prejudices (leaning heavily towards posts with links that teach me something I didn't know). Any help will be greatly appreciated and you are not responsible for any advice not taken, the fault will still lie with me. If you wouldn't mind I'd like to use this ping list (plus an ALL) to post such a request on the Sunday thread. Anyone who does not want to be so pinged just let me know.
LOLOLOL. You pegged it perfectly. I'm going to go see if I can find my characterization of Feingold's questioning. We think alike, it seems.
Here it is: "Feingold to Fein: The President is a really bad guy who broke the law, right? Fein: Right. Feingold to Dean: The President is a really bad guy who broke the law, right? Dean: Right? Why, because we say so."
Thanks for the ping
Hi...sorry it took me so long to get here...busy, busy week.
And now I am sick with a bad cold...cough, cough, sniff, sniff.
I DO know how hard it will be to get used to glasses after wearing contact lenses for so long...I wear contacts all the time...but if, I have a cold (like now), and it affects my eyes, I will have to wear my back-up glasses...
I look like I am drunk, because my equilibrium is out of whack!!!
Just hang in there friend, it sounds like you are getting closer and closer to some kind of permanent solution, hopefully.
Re: the Sunday shows
I agree that the only really interesting guest will be Sensenbrenner...he has a blustery persona normally, and I am sure with the pictures on the internet like you posted...he will be a live wire.
I will watch George Allen, because I am anxious to see if he is getting any better at stating his opinions...
I sure wish that Kyl, Cornyn or Sessions would have been invited, so they could explain THEIR Immigration Bill...but, I see none of them were.
What a shame...
Good luck with the glasses. I have a sister who had to give up contacts after 30 years because she developed an allergy. She had the Lasix surgery, and so far is doing ok. I assume that isn't an option for you, so I will keep you in my prayers.
Don't worry, I will help you Sunday...I usually get to the thread late..and I usually don't try to read from the start...but I will try to get there at the start this week...
BTW...I just have one tip for you---vote for ME #1!!! LOL
Just kidding, I am a reactor, not a provider of links and stuff like so many wonderful freepers like YOU are.
You must be a great employee....you sure do go above and beyond what anyone else has done in previewing the Sunday shows...on ANY website.
Hi FRiend!
First, best of luck w your glasses! While I've worn them on and off (contacts in between) for years, I always have to adjust (like most do) when my prescription is changed. I'm near-sighted, so the worst in going down the stairs as they look farther away. So take your time, go slow and be careful!
Another fabulous post by you - - so much hard work. I always enjoy your memes and they're almost always right on!
Best,
SC (or as MNJohnnie donned me last week,
"Princess Links" ;-)
Hi Sleuth,
Psstpok sure does go above and beyond - amazing every week!
I missed the VP the other night, so was just checking the CSpan schedule to see if it might be on - it is on again tomorrow afternoon. I read the thread on the censure hearing, so want to check that out, too. I'm including all of the schedule here for anyone that might be interested. I think I'll miss Harry Belafonte giving a speech at the Foreign Policy Luncheon - I don't think my stomach or BP could handle it. There are a couple others that may be interesting, though.

When I asked about the laser surgery several years ago they laughed and said "noooooo, you're not a good candidate."
I'm holding out for Geordi LaForge's visor from Star Trek. Plug me in!
Thanks you for your prayers. They are much appreciated.
I really enjoy your posts, and they're the kind of thing I'm trying to make sure I don't miss because of my own prejudices. I get so locked in on finding out some new factoid (like the post on this thread by Conservative Firster about Matthew Dowd's involvement as a Mexican lobbyist) that I forget to pay enough attention to the analysis posts. It's a limitation I want to recognize and adjust for, not only to make sure I don't slight anyone but also to make sure that I pick up on the analysis, which is really valuable.
Great thanks for the schedule...I think I will try to catch the dinner that Cheney spoke at..
Thanks for the compliment..
I LOVE the give and take on the Sunday thread...sometimes, regardless of the topics on the shows...our thread will go off in a totally different direction..
BTW...that Cynthia McKinney thing has gotten HUGH...do you think there will be room on any of these shows to discuss that??
Oh, silly me---what was I thinking, there isn't any way to make it Bush's fault, so it won't. Never mind.

The DeLay speech looks promising and the Cheney bit at the correspondents dinner is supposed to be priceless.
Thank you very much.
When I try (usually in vain) to describe my politics I end up defining my brand of conservatism as being a "cynical liberal." I believe in the (stated) liberal ideals of equal treatment for all, help for those that need it, open and honest engagement with all, etc., but I don't believe for a moment that Teddy Kennedy or Jesse Jackson are out for anyone but themselves. I came to conservatism honestly, by discovering that liberalism just doesn't work and makes things worse for the people it's meant to help.
And I've also come by my cynicism honestly over my 51 years, and enjoy it when I find it in others, too. But I won't let it fall over into clintonian or machivellian relms. That's not fun and, more importantly, it's not productive. I'm all about things that actually work. Like this place.
Well, I sent my question to Meet the Depressed. I cut and pasted the bit from RightWingNews.com (as soon as they see the name of the source, it will be sent to the dump, I am sure) revealing that Senators Hagel and Nelson both worked actively and successfully against the enforcement of laws against illegals in the meatpacking industry in Nebraska, and asked why we should believe the laws will be enforced THIS TIME. I am sure that Timmy will ask McCain about this so I will listen carefully for the answer.
