What we know, and what we think we might know, so far....

Frist has filed a cloture motion. The cloture vote will be Monday afternoon, then the vote on Alito will occur Tuesday morning. He will be sworn in at noon on Tuesday, in the WH..( a GREAT photo op, BTW)..then he'll run over, with family to the Supreme Court building..for another photo op...then I expect that Alito, Roberts, and most of the justices will appear at the SOTU..

Kerry supposed flew back last night/early this morning from Davos, and is going all out to mount a "filabuster" A few Dems have said they will support it. Hillary isn't sure yet what she wants to do.

Enough Dems have said they do NOT support a filabuster, tat he whole thing appears to be an exercise in posturing and pandering to the left/lib loony base..an earlystart to the 2008 primary season.

Reid really looked disconsolate, "deeply saddened" yesterday afternoon, when he threw in the towel.

So, what will happen today? I expect that some of the virulent anti-Slito Dems will bloviate on the Senate floor. Boxer has yet to speak, IIRC, and we know she's got a LOT to say, right...and the Dems will try and get some media exposure for the weekend..so it seems they have to put on a show today, to set the stage for the "filabuster" on Monday..

I have a suggestion for the GOP leadership. Since they are alternating every hour, when it is the GOP's turn to speak, the senators should just read the text of Sheet's speech into the record..Heck they can even practice waving a Constitution around..

Anyhow, if you're around at noon, or during the day, check out the Senate and/or this thread..

I'd like to see Kerry do a 'real' filibuster. See how long he can stand there, reading, reciting, speaking, before boring himself to sleep.

I'd bet he wouldn't last 2 hours.

If the libDems try to filibuster, Frist to call their bluff and force them to do a real one, not one of these new faux filibusters where they only have to show up a couple of hours a couple of times each week.

You don't think the 'rats will use all of the 30 hours of debate time after cloture just to delay the vote until after the SOTU?

I wouldn't put it past the slimes to do all they could to delay this from happening. They so hate GWB that they'll do anything to steal a promising, successful moment from this president...no matter who it hurts. And what's so disheartening is that the wimpy Republican leadership in the Senate will allow the slimes to get away with it.

Sessions is laying down the gauntlet. Notes that the DEMs are accusing filibuster, but "where are the Senators?" Nobody is around to talk. Nobody is here to complain. Less than 25 DEM Senators have come to the floor.

He reminded the Senators that Daschle is out of office, likely in part due to mounting minority opposition to voting on judicial nominations.

Anyway, it's all political theater now, and I'm glad to see the GOP playing it up, against the DEMs. The only surprise would be Reid offering UC to vote on the nomination, without the scheduled intervening cloture vote.

Sen. Sessions is blasting the concept of foreign law as the basis for SC decisions.

Good for him.

Trouble is, O'connor and other judges have been on the side of using foreign law. So have some Senators. Remember Sen. Specter's reliance of Scottish Law during the Clinton Impeachment hearing?

The best counter I've heard was someone who posted/said: Our Forefathers established The Constitution to get away from foreign (European) law.

And now a word from our REAL Sponsors of Free Speech

The Men and Women who serve,
and have served, our country
are the ones who make sure that
the Politicans and Judges are free to do their job.

We would not have a US Supreme Court
without the protection of the Military.

Politicans and Judges are safe
because of the Military who protect them.

TEST : Call your Senator or Congressman's office
AFTER 5 PM, or on the weekend.
IF you speak to an actual person, ask who's in charge today?

Now look up the phone number
of your local military base.
Call that number 24/7
and ask the live voice you get
to speak with the person in charge.

Send a Thank You while you enjoy your Freedom also.

You will stay right where you are on the thread.
Please take a moment and Thank a Service Man or Woman.
