What Happened to BugMeNot ?

Ever go to a posted story only to find out you had to create an account to read their babblings?

Well, www.bugmenot.com was a clever site that posted usernames and passwords if you typed in the name of the news site.

Seems they did not renew their domain name.

Are there other comparable sites out there?

Glad I saved a few bugmenot favorites. Sounds like an opportunity just became available.

They probably were getting sued and since they weren't in the profit business, they folded.

Wow, now you will have to register like the rest of us. How do you make it?

Furthermore, rather than bothering to register on NYT, LA Times or most tv station web sites it is better to wait until their incomplete or partially fabricated stories get filtered out by FR users.

Amen.. They are not getting one penny selling my email address, no matter how much they promise not to.

domain names are held for 30-60 days before being released totally -- there are always mistakes ("I thought YOU paid the bill!") so a reputable doamin name reseller like GoDaddy won't automatically dump an expired name back on the market.

this may not be the answer your looking for but you can sign up and register at any news site without giving out your email just by making up an email at http://www.mailinator.com/mailinator/index.jsp

just type ANYTHING@mailinator.com

That way you dont have to give out your email and get on stupid mailing list but then again you still have to fill out all those BS forms.

Must have been temporary, because the web site and the Firefox extension are both working fine. The plugin even works with Firefox 1.5 now...cool.

I could never get it to work, figured it was my 'puters security that prevented it. Doesn't matter, I use a yahoo account solely for this purpose (The amount of spam is INSANE) and I always tell them I am a 89 year old black woman with a PHD making 2M a year.
