Factchecks timeline of events says about 5 hours after Katrina hits land;
"Late Morning (exact time uncertain) - The vital 17th Street Canal levee gives way, sending the water from Lake Pontchartrain into the city in a second, slower wave of flooding. A full day will pass before state or federal officials fully realize what is happening.

Eventually, engineers will find five separate places where concrete floodwalls gave way. They will still be debating and studying the causes of the failures two weeks after the storm." .....
Then approxamatly 28 hours later (nearly 2 days after the storm hits) in the time line, factcheck includes this;
"3 p.m. - With water still pouring into the city, officials report that the Army Corps of Engineers has surveyed the damage to levees and will soon attempt repair."
Monday September 5, 2005 - One Week After
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers repair the levee breach on the 17th Street Canal and begin to pump water from the city.

Just what is a comment like this doing in a "factual" story? Not just the comment but the way it is written using words and phrases such as "eventually" and "still be debating and studying". As the time line goes on we see that a levee breach had been repaired and draining the city begins.
My experience with government buaracracy and engineers is that they are still "debating and studying the causes of the failures " to this day. That did not stop the temporary repair of the levee though as factchecks unbiased comment suggests.
This whole time line is riddled with ridicule for the President who was not saying enough about the storm and not at the scene of the disaster.
So much for being politically unbiased.

I should have known. Makes perfect sense though.
That is factcheck.com. Factcheck.org is a pretty good website which tries to get the facts.
But in a case like Katrina, you are going to get narrative. I don't know how good their facts are in this case. I appreciate their examination of political ads, and wish they had local outlets for state and local races -- we have a campaign here that could really use some authoritative whipping.

There are actually six locations where concrete floodwalls gave way.
There are also two locations where floodgates in concrete floodwalls gave way or were damaged seriously enough to allow large quantities of sea water into inhabited areas.

Their only other option is to publicly admit that they were all drinking, partying, and having aberrant sex instead of doing their jobs, an admission which would result in lawsuits rendering the entire Anmerican Democratic Party insolvent and destitute.
I estimate the probability of such an admission ever actually occuring to be pretty low. Almost as low as the odds of anyone who cares enough to look at the actual facts believing the story they do choose to tell.

All week they've been cackling with glee, Russert and Couric leading the pack, because they finally have Bush on the ropes, facing imminent impeachment. Why?
Because of the indictments against Karl Rove that were announced Wednesday. Now you and others may note that it is now 2:21 pm EST, and that no such indictments have been issued, but they don't live in the same universe that we do and in their extra-dimensional world, reality does not apply.
All we can do is keep working to prevent them from poisoning any more minds.
You don't need to be Shakespeare, just stating the facts is all that is required. We really don't want anyone on our side who cannot discern truth from fiction, we'd just have to carry them the same way as we carry the Left, only they'd be "inside" and able to cause much more trouble as a result, which is where posts like the one which started this thread come into play.
