The American Red Cross fired an employee, Michael Hartman, for expressing his disagreement with homosexuality.
Hartman had been a volunteer and donor for the Red Cross for over 30 years when he became an employee at the San Diego, California, center. He had been there for about eight months when, in the latter part of May 2005, a mass e-mail was sent to employees reminding everyone that June was Gay and Lesbian Pride Month and employees were encouraged to "observe" the celebration.
The e-mail, distributed by Chief Diversity Officer David Wilkins, stated, "It is my pleasure to announce that June will be recognized as Gay and Lesbian Pride Month at national headquarters It is only fitting that we reinforce our organization's commitment to inclusion by recognizing this important group and celebrating the many accomplishments they have made to our organization I'd like to take this opportunity during the month of June to encourage field units to extend their reach into gay and lesbian communities."
As a Christian, Hartman was concerned by the e-mail and expressed his sentiments to his female supervisor, "who did not care." He then e-mailed several head administrators, who immediately called him into the Red Cross regional center in Pomona, California. Hartman was reprimanded and told that his e-mail was "not appropriate."
The "inappropriate" e-mail that Hartman sent contained the following statements:
"I would like to start by stating that I am a Christian not willing to compromise my beliefs to promote the agenda of the homosexual community. I would also like to say that I think it's disgraceful that while most of us [at the Red Cross] are trying to save lives, a select few are using this organization to promote their own lifestyles which in my opinion are unacceptable."

That's why I only give blood to the Red Cross and not money.
So, this is an organization that relies on donations for it's existence, but they have the money to put a "Chief Diversity Officer" on the payroll?
Any organization with a Chief Diversity Officer is suspect right out of the chute.
I still remember reading the book Hunt for Red October and how each vessel had a political correctness officer on board. What goes around, comes around.
... and in a related story, if you reply in the affirmative as to whether or not you have partaken in some of the "activities" practiced by those being celebrated, they won't take your blood.
Am I missing something here?
The Red Cross promoting disease vectoring. How much federal money do they get?
The intolerance of the diversity crowd shows how flawed they are.
(But they sure think they're righteous, don't they). How
blind can they get?
The Red cross better start working on upping their blood
supplies, and finding out how to detect diseases in their
blood supply, and not diversity. They also ought to fund study on
blood/plasma replacements.
Next time you go into the hospital, look into autologous
blood transfusion, (where you donate your own blood
for use by yourself, one drawback is short period of
longevity of your blood, can't be stored indefinitely)
Perhaps the Red Cross, can research methods of storing
ones blood for longer periods of time.
And just how was everyone supposed to observe this celebration?
Good point. I don't think there is much difference between marxism and PC. IN fact, PC is a part of marxism.
Exactly the same used to happen in the USSR, only it was carried out by the KGB.
Red cross was a great organization, but it's become too political now for my tastes...
WHO? WHO WILL NOT WEAR THE RIBBON?!
Gotta save this one for our congregation. I'm sure it will open a lot of eyes.
Personally I think celebration of this important day should be compulsory. In fact, any employee that does not take part in a public sodomy-daisy-chain to celebrate the diversity of all of us, should be terminated immediately. We all have to be team players, you know.
Umm... I was about to say that was something different, but the more I consider it the more it isn't.
Why in the hell does any organization have to "celebrate" crap like this? It's absurd. Are we to expect the Red Cross will ever celebrate straight married people? No. I had been working with the Red Cross on their blood drives for our plant--time to re-think whether I should. One expressing his opinion about an issue of sexual relations not being celebrated and then being disciplined for it is enough.
I became disenchanted with the Red Cross when I was a GI in the 60's. Lots of veterans have stories about the Red Cross. Other than expediting compassionate leave for a family crisis, I've never heard a good word about the origanization.
I remember going to my local blood bank (not operated by the Red Cross) in October 2001. They advised me that they had a surplus and to donate at a later date.
