"Hear, Hear! Been saying this since I voted for this clown the second time. :) He is the reason I am no longer a Repub."

What are you now?

No kidding. No wind, and usually around 72 degrees. It was 81 last night because it was over 115 outside the (covered) stadium.

BREAKING: Roger Clemens has left Houston and boarded a private jet for DC.

Honestly, I would have never guessed that his middle name was Joy.

As a district judge, Clement presided over such high-profile cases as the 2000 trials of former Louisiana governor Edwin W. Edwards (D) and former state insurance commissioner Jim Brown (D) on fraud charges. Edwards was acquitted; Brown was convicted of lying to the FBI and sentenced to six months in prison.

Lawyers who know Clement or have tried cases before her describe her as a judicial conservative who leans toward the defense in civil cases, and as a no-nonsense judge who is strict about deadlines and insists on professionalism from lawyers.

Not necessarily. Bush's record on judges has been mostly excellent. Surely he won't blow it on the big one.

Right now, unaffiliated. I will still vote Repub, most likely. But they get no more of my money or time, until and unless they grow collective backbones and act like conservatives.

Wow...that was almost as short-lived as my career as a Supreme Court nominee!

I wonder if she flew to DC? That has got to stink if she did....then again it happened to Edith Jones back in 1992 when Souter got the nod.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Bush 41 had put Jones on and not Souter...then with Thomas...then in 2005 we would probably be saying that Bush a great conservative. But in retrospect, this one single, solitary appointment has rightfully tarnished his reputation forever.

The fact is unfortunately our system has become such that on the domestic front, at least as to the issues that greatly divide us, the only thing that matters is the USSC. What GWB does today will be BY FAR the most important factor in determining whether or not we elected someone who is a conservative as regards the domestic agenda.

Can any of you insiders convey that message to the powers that be?

White House reporter John King at CNN says he is getting 'pushback' from those closely involved in the selection process that he 'should not go there' with Edith Jones Clement.

Were these the actual words, or did they say Edith JOY Clement? Do you suppose they would be deliberately confusing these two potential nominees?

"An informed source told ABC News they had spoken with Clement and said she received a phone call from the White House this afternoon. According to the source, Clement was thanked for meeting with the president and sharing her views on the Supreme Court, but that the administration has decided to go in a “different direction.” The White House said Bush will announce his selection tonight at 9 p.m. ET."

The way this ABC story is worded makes me wonder if rumblings from conservatives might have caused a last minute change.

Interesting.
