Fire, Anti-Gay Graffiti at United Church of Christ After Same-Sex Marriage Resolution
AP ^ | Jul 9, 2005

A small fire and anti-gay graffiti were found Saturday at a church belonging to the United Church of Christ, a denomination that endorsed same-sex marriage last week. The exterior of St. John's Reformed United Church of Christ also included a message that United Church of Christ members were sinners.

A member of the congregation discovered the graffiti when he stopped by to mow the grass. He found a small fire within the sanctuary. The fire was put out in a few minutes, Lt. Tim McCray said.

A Virginia State Police fire investigator was on the scene Saturday afternoon, but declined to comment.

The fire came a day after two black churches were heavily damaged by seven arson fires in Sparta, Tenn. Authorities said there was no evidence that it was a hate crime, but they were not ruling anything out.

Someone also tried to set fire to a mosque early Saturday in Bloomington, Ind., and the FBI was investigating it as a hate crime.

The United Church of Christ's rule-making body endorsed a resolution July 4 endorsing same-sex marriage. UCC churches are autonomous, meaning the General Synod does not create policy for its more than 5,700 congregations.

This is totally stupid and counter productive. I hope the perpetrators are found and brought to accountability.

They should check the guy mowing the lawn first. He gets to play the victim and the hero at the same time! Pretty convenient, aye?

Sounds plausible. You're probably correct but you would think LE would figure out that one.

I'm sure they will, but the liberal press would never report it. We'll never hear the ending of this story.

Again, I'm sure you're correct.

PS...Did you hear about the two queers who tortured and killed that 10 year old boy in Arkansas? Probably not. ABC was pressured by the American people to report it, and they gave it 30 seconds in front of a bland tan screen. BUT, I'm sure you heard about Matthew Shepard.

Bingo!! My first thought as well. The whole agenda has been inciting hate for years, and when they don't get it, more and more they do it themselves, and even though the truth comes out, they still carry it like a badge as examples of why they need hate crimes laws. No Christian would burn a church. Now the Kansas group, who aren't Christians at all, maybe. But I almost suspect they are paid by the lefties.

No doubt very close! They want to restart the civil rights movement, trouble is, black Americans don't like it, because there is no comparison, and they can't ride the coat tails of true civil rights.

Are you talking about Phelps? He's a Democrat, or at least he was when he attended the '93 inauguration as Gore's guest. He got invited to the '97 too, but I guess he had a falling out with Al by then. That whole crowd is just plain nuts. Phelps ran as a Democrat for the Governor's seat back in the 90's. He received about 15,000 votes in the primaries.

Yes, and I should have known better than to ask.

That would be the one yes. He progclaims "God Hates Fags" First of all God hates no one!! and He doesn't label people either. More to the truth, He welcomes all to come to him to repent, and be forgiven.
That group and Phelps, are lunatics!!

Absolutely right that God hates no one, but he does label us as sinners. All of us. Too bad guys like Phelps don't recognize the plank in their own eyes. We can pray for people to turn away from sin without hating them. Not easy to do sometimes, but it's definitly possible.

I wonder if this is another "staged" hate crime just like that black woman professor staged her own hate crime for political gain.

Such small damage, such small grafitti, so very suspicious.

Is almost all of these cases. It turns out to be the person or group themselves doing things like this.
Trying to drum up support and say those evil _____

This sound like that!

I agree, defacing someone else's property because you don't agree with them are the actions of a weak minded person. UCC is anti Christian, but we're supposed to love our enemies, even when we hate their actions. Destroying their property isn't showing love. After saying that, my first reaction is to wonder if they defaced their own church to get some publicity. It's been done quite a bit lately.

Interesting. My congregation had a Satanic symbol put there by an anti-Christian organization. They went there during the night and cleaned it up so that it didn't get into the media which was the intent.

Arson and vandalism are wrong, no matter who the victim might be.

Indeed. No wonder I got spanked so many times for writing on the walls.

To be fair, I've seen very few cases where that it the case.

same-sex marriage

There's an oxymoron

Indeed, I would say so too. Two people getting married of the same sex are like two pimply, not-so-bright people. I couldn't imagine marrying someone of the same gender. Do you know how much contention there would be over the remote???
