There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.
There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.
The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.
A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."
British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".
"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.
"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."
One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.
The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.
He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.
I'll be surprised if they have the resources to pull off a coordinated attack in those countries as well. If there's anything to be grateful for, it's that this wasn't a WMD attack. It's always been my fear that was next.
I suspect they'll blame Blair for this because he backed Bush on Iraq.

Brian Ross on ABC is reporting that on the islamic websites Al Quida al Jihad is claiming responsibility for the attacks.
I knew credit would be taken.
It was also mentioned they threatened Denmark and Italy that if they don't move their troops out of Iraq, they will be attacked. Damn the terrorists.

FRANCE today raised its anti-terror alert to red, the second-highest rating, after a series of explosions rocked London, Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin announced. The alert level was changed immediately to red, moving up one notch on a four-level scale, the prime minister said.
Scarlet is the highest warning level.
Mr Villepin expressed his "deepest solidarity'' with the British people after the explosions.
Perhaps lead off with "God Save the King" (where IS the King, anyhow?) then go to Star Spangled Banner.
The same whackjob moonbats that believe in MIHOP and LIHOP are gonna lump this in there as well.

If there was indeed a warning to Scotland Yard, it was likely very vague, they called Israel to see if the Mossad had any info like a similar warning, recent step up in chatter, etc. It all moves fast, and despite that idiot Judge Neopolito already pointing accusatory fingers, probably none of these agencies made a mistake or were in a position to prevent any of the bombings.

What a thing to wake up to. What gets me is how many DUmmies here and across the pond, were saying how they were sick of hearing of 9-11, etc. When was the last time any MSM outlet even mentioned 9-11 or showed the images from that tragic day? I bet the NYT and WP ended up printing more images and stories about Abu Gharib and Gitmo than the attacks themselves.
I wouldn't put it above al-Qaeda to hire non-Muslims to pull this off, given what we know from captured al-Qaeda documents in Afghanistan. The possibility of al-Qaeda hiring members of the so-called Real IRA to do this attack is perfect for what they did in London.
