There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.
There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.
The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.
A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."
British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".
"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.
"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."
One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.
The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.
He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.
He sounded somewhat shakey up to me.
Gee he posted the same thing at the DUmp. LOL! Thanks for giving us his FReeper name.
You provided the news and it appears to have outed a mole too.
Good job.
Prayers to all those who have been affected by these attacks and their families.
Oh come on, a few terrorist bombs are NOTHING compared to what London was subjected to in WWII. V1 and V2 bombings, massive firestorms, tens of thousands of civilian casualties.
My mum was a MedStudent, Firewatcher and AirRaid warden IN London during the 'Battle of Britain'. During surgeries she remembers shrapnel bouncing off the skylights of the hospital.
The Brits are a hardy bunch and this will only steel their resolve to fight terrorism the world over.
G
PM Tony Blair headed to London in a few hours. Per Fox.
And they're going to see just what? A jillion backpackers?
Power surge my hindquarers. This was a terror attack and we're next.
A very interesting and good find, Diddle E. Squat.
Well it can't by definition. It can't be "peaceful" muslims can it? I would say whoever did it is far from peaceful.
Blair is leaving the G8 meeting and heading back to London in the next few hours.
God Bless him, I don't think I have ever seen him this rattled.

Next thing they'll say is that Dow Chemical and other such corporations funded the terrorists to keep global warming going.
More lunatic left from DU:
"At first, I was going to come on and say something to the effect that, well gee, we ALL hope it doesn't "happen here", as they probably still wish it wouldn't have happened in London, right now. This very minute. Seemed a little insensitive to be saying "hope it doesn't happen here" so soon, only hours after.
But, you didn't mean it that way, and, I think you're right. If these neocon monsters have *anything* to do with this...and they're just as likely as the terrorists, they aren't any less bloodthirsty, any less power hungry or any more ethical...then to attack us here at the same time would certainly be an event they could use. It is not beyond these monsters, and we know it.
Yeah, unfortunately, seems to me you have a very good point. If it was a good time to attack them, it may very well be a good time for us as well, in the eyes of the monsters."
On the verge of tears, imo.
Well it is beyond disrepectful to do it today. Why don't they go start their own thread.
Excellent find.
While each of those around that G8 table may indeed have experience with terrorism (as Blair just noted), perhaps it is time to straight up ask that thug Putin why he continues to support and assist terror states like Iran in their pursuit of nuclear weapons.
I don't know. I have given up trying to understand them. The only explanation I have is that they are truly "Evil."
Well, of course we need some historical GRUDGE for this to have "deep meaning" for a bunch of barbarians, don't we?
Un-freak-ing believeable.
If it is the Palestinians, hell is going to reign down on them.
tony blair: reasonably clear that there has been a series of terrorist attacks. Will leave G8 for London in next few hors and will return later this evening. G8 meeting will continue in my absence. All the leaders share our resolution to defeat this terrorism. Particularly barbaric timing. Clear that it is designed to coincide with the G8 meeting. Important that terrorists realise that our determination is greater than then their determination to impose extremism on the world. They will never succeed.
Blair seems really shaken up.
Wonder what he knows that we don't?
Says the words Terrorists Attack. Reminds me of Bush not so many years ago sitting in that classroom. Bless them both.
Praying for my sons continued safety in London as I type.
No word on the airports yet. Metro says there will be bomb sniffing dogs and patrols with machine guns.
He's stunned too. I have such respect for PM Blair.
All the G-8's now know that terrorists have hit London.
No more nonsense about a power surge.
Thank you for the audio link!
I thought he did, too; almost dazed.
Pretty strong statement of resolve at the end despite sounding very shaken.

Whatever they want, they will not succeed...

Yes.

Traffic camera image from video of the Russell Square area of central London following an explosion on board a bus, Thursday July 7, 2005. What is believed to be the roof of the double-decker bus can be seen centre right. Blair looks very shaken indeed. Prayers for the people of Britain on this terrible day.
He is one of the best voices on Fox News Channel - or on any channel for that matter. He's a sports guy who just tells it like it is.
Yeah, he was shaken and rightly so. I have such admiration and respect for your PM.
I suspect that some of the malcontents are trolls. It is best not to respond their annoying drivel.

Solidarity.
This attack must be answered by at least one major regime change and it doesn't matter which one (actually, it matters to us to get the one with the most oil money still going to terror groups and that is Iran).
Syria first. Then Iran. Mugabe's gotta go, too (and I don't mean "go" to Paris on a state visit!)
Found an article. Israel was getting ready host and economic conference close to the first blast site:
"British police told the Israeli Embassy in London minutes before today's explosions they had received warnings of possible terror attacks in the city, a senior Israeli official said.
Israel was holding an economic conference near the scene of one of the explosions. Israeli Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was supposed to attend, but the attacks occurred before he arrived.
Just before the blasts, Scotland Yard called the security officer at the Israeli Embassy and said warnings of possible attacks had been received, the official said. He did not say whether British police made any link to the economic conference."

How Blair will be able to work for a few hours this morning to talk about global warming is a mystery to me.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Let's hope we are being paranoid.
FWIW, I thought he was so angry that he had to be very careful while he spoke.
If we don't start executing the criminal radicals that are apprehended we can expect more attacks.
Listening to Tony: You can feel Tony's pain for his countrymen just as you could feel Bush's on 9-11. The resolve that good will conquer evil is the end game. Prayers to all.
Agreed.
"One issue" posters have tunnel vision and use every opportunity to push their agenda; then they are surprised when people react disdainfully toward them AND their issue.
