Four Northwest Indian tribes had opposed the study, claiming the skeleton could be an ancestor who should be buried.

He could have been a European tourist too.

In my opinion nothing summed up the Clinton administration better than the way the responded to Kennewick Man controversy. Instead of granting the scientists access to the remains for study they fought like hell to keep them away. Instead of protecting the area of the river where the remains were found they ordered the Army Corps of Engineers to dump tons of rocks over the area assuring that no more politically correct bones were unearthed.

Remember "He who controls the past controls the future".

"Legislation remains under consideration in Congress that would allow federally recognized tribes to claim ancient remains even if they cannot prove a link to a current tribe."

THIS IS MCCAIN'S DOING!

Don't forget the McLame amendment to some pending legislation, which would halt the scientists' work in its tracks.

How politically correct of them [/sarcasm]

...once and for all the question of who arrived in America first will be answered....if the results are not on the native Americans' side...does that mean that all casino distribtions to these "native" Americans will be rescinded? Will we finally be able to use the phrase "Home of the Brave" without being politically insensitive?

We're waiting.

Yeah, we need a law to ensure facts are never revealed.
Can't allow any scientific evidence to surface that might conflict with a P.C. agenda.

The "Native" tribes are fighting this one and some other skeletal examinations because there is a very good chance that the testing will prove that Europeans/Africans were here either before or at about the same time as they were. It would destroy their moral/legal claims to the continent.

If this turns out like I think, I'm going to apply for a gambling casino license.

We must make sure this legislation does not get passed. Please contact your congressman.

Me either. I read somewhere that his features suggest that he might be Ainu, which are native to the Japanese islands, and still exist there on the northern island of Hokkaido. I am sure that genetic testing will answer that question.

It should be interesting.

Political correctness has lost to science for a change. Most indian tribes moved around quite a bit and had nomadic lifelstyles. At any rate, in 9.300 years, its kind of hard to believe the same people were living in the same place all that time.

Thanks to pandering to American Indian "Rights" fanatics like the nitwits who tried to block this, a lot of the original data is unrecoverable as the site where the bones were found was demolished by the U.S. government to avoid angering this handfull of aboriginal fanatics.

Using their thinking, Etzli, or whateverm they call the iceman they found in the Alps, should be protected by the Italian, Swiss, and Austrian Governments because he might have been one of THEIR ancestors!!
