A Couch Tom Cruise Won't Jump On
Washington Post ^ | Saturday, June 25, 2005; Page C01 | Richard Leiby

Posted on 06/25/2005 11:10:01 AM PDT by echoBoomer

Okay, should we address him as Dr. Tom Cruise from now on? Or will the Rev. Dr. Cruise suffice?

Whatever: Anybody who watched the actor's performance on NBC's "Today" show yesterday witnessed an unsettling transformation. The movie star, who has long embraced Scientology, launched a full-bore assault on the psychiatric profession, sticking to a script that his church (founded, mind you, by a hack science fiction writer) has been promoting for decades.

"Psychiatry is a pseudoscience," he told host Matt Lauer, later saying: "You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do."...

Michael Medved talked about this "confrontation interview" yesterday.

All I could think of was "Battle of the Insufferable Superstars!"

Scientologists are definitely cuckoo, but maybe it takes one to know one.

Psychiatry is about as scientific as thetans coming out of a volcanic explosion caused by massive amounts of nuclear weapons being thrown down the crater!

This is another celebrity mouthing off opinions we could all do without hearing. I don't really care what Tom Cruise thinks of pyschiatry anymore than I care what Barbara Streisand thinks about the war on terror.

But, he was incredibly rude about Brook Sheilds, whose life is no business of his, and from the clip I heard of this interview he was incredibly rude to Matt Lauer. And in my book, uncalled for rudeness is not OK.

In an interview now online on Entertainment Weekly, Tom Cruise addresses some of his insane tendencies of late, including flopping around on Oprah, taking shots out of nowhere on Brooke Shields and his ramped up commitment to Scientology, the only thing that can save the lost souls here on Teegeeack, or what you humans call “Earth.” Before anyone is too hard on Tom, just remember that his body is inhabited by the wandering souls of fried space aliens. So that sucks. And laugh if you want, but once Xenu is freed from his electronic mountain trap and order is restored to the Galactic Confederation, (an alliance of 76 planets founded 95 million years ago) you’re gonna feel pretty silly. No offense all of you who don't believe in Xenu, but you're kinda makin an ass out of yourself.

Maybe Mr. Leiby will think twice about gushing over the opinions of the Hollywood elite, after examining Tom Cruise's latest offerings.

Love your post and agree with it. I also thought that Cruise was unreasonably angry with Matt Lauer.

Cruise gives me the heebee-jeebies...has since his "Risky Business" days. The guy is an insufferable conceit.

Cruise is hiding something that he doesn`t want people to find out which is why he couldn`t debate Matt idiot Lauer without acting offended and being confrontational, and I highly suspect it is because he is gay. Like one Freeper said yesterday, Lauer should have asked Cruise if Scientology cures homosexuality. A very valid question for Mr. Cruise who I suspect was acting all crazy on the Oafrah show because he thinks he is cured, not because he met this girl. He wants the world to know that he thinks he is cured but he can`t come outright and say it.

I know next to nothing about Scientology but I do know that even Tom Cruise has the RIGHT to practice any damn religion he wants to and for some writer from the Washington comPost to make fun of it is or should be a crime. If he did that to a practitioner of the religion of peace, he would be tarred and feathered

orget medical research: "There is no such thing as a chemical imbalance in a body," said Cruise

Someone ask Tom what vitamins i'm supposed to take for my epilepsy that will keep me from acting like a fish out of water. I take medication everyday, if he knows of an exercise or vitamins that will work, then he needs to share so that I can join the Air Force.

Scientology is not a religion, notwithstanding Bill Clinton's support for it.
