Str. suis serotype 2 is known to infect and cause the following complications in infected humans: -Meningitis -Respiratory tract infection -Septicemia (also known as sepsis) Sepsis can lead to: -Systemic inflammatory response -Sever sepsis(sepsis with acute organ dysfunction) -Septic shock(sepsis with refractory arterial hypotension) Refractory arterial hypotension: Refractory: 2 a : resistant to treatment or cure b : unresponsive to stimulus c : IMMUNE, INSUSCEPTIBLE Arterial hypotension: Abnormally low blood pressure in the arteries If we're talking about death <24 hours after onset of symptoms, then I believe septic shock, which is capable of causing multiple organ failure, is more than capable of doing the job.
