John McCain Gets Soros Cash
DiscovertheNetwork.org / Moonbat Central ^ | March 10, 2005 | Richard Poe

Senator John McCain's Reform Institute has suffered some bad press recently due to its involvement in an influence-peddling scandal with Cablevision. As usual, however, mainstream media have failed to go to the root of the matter.

Founded on June 26, 2001, McCain's Reform Institute for Campaign and Election Issues has long served as a nerve center for the so-called "campaign finance reform" movement – a movement which has done nothing to clean up campaign finance, but has done a great deal to empower federal judges and government bureaucrats to regulate political speech, in defiance of the Bill of Rights.

Now here's the kicker. The list of donors published on the Reform Institute's Web site reads like a veritable Who's Who of radical, leftwing foundations, including the Tides Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Proteus Fund and George Soros' Open Society Institute. (hat tip, Winfield Myers)

Not surprisingly, in view of the above associations, Arianna Huffington serves on the Reform Institute's Advisory Board. Huffington has long acted as a front for George Soros' "campaign finance reform" efforts. In 2000, she organized the so-called Shadow Conventions which provided John McCain with a bully pulpit to stump for his now-infamous McCain-Feingold Act. George Soros shouldered about one third of the cost of the Shadow Conventions.

Mark Levin reporting on McC's connection to Soros, Carnegie Foundation and other far left groups.

We must keep up the drumbeat of information so he never even runs for President.

McCain has been through a lot. My fear is that he is the Manchurian Canidate and I mean the old movie not the new one. He has done a lot for America though what he does now is questionable.

Would you be interested in buying a bridge or two - cheap? I have several in New York, and San Francisco that I'd be willing to let go for peanuts.

He spent years in a Viet Nam Prison camp as a POW. That is what he did for America and the combat missions he flew. What must have happened to him as a POW makes me wonde if he is all together there.

He got by on family connections in the first place. If he had to stay in the Naval Academy on his own merit he would NEVER have been there.

His capture was the unintended consequence of undeserved privilege.

I am sorry he was a POW but that does not give him special status, as he has not lived his life with honor.....before or after his capture.

I agree with you on all of it. I don't think he was and outstanding individual at all. He flew the missions and spent the time as a POW. As an U. S. Air Force veteran I won't forget any of that. I wish he wasn't in congress though he paid his dues.

$500 billion was a lot of money to steal. I wonder if there was a bigger caper in history (not counting theft by gov'ts themselves, which is a different category.) I thought the number was $330 billion, but the speculation applies either way.

My biggest fear on the guy is the new plan to extend McCain-Finegold to the Internet. Ultimately, they need to shut us down, probably, to win. This strategy could work, it seems to me.

In my opinion, someone should be raising money and mobilizing some kind of fight against this. Maybe produce a DVD and distribute it widely for free, get the word out to the "video viewing" masses.

Have you any idea what the savings and loan debacle cost this country?

He abandoned his wife when he returned home.

From what I can see, he is rarely if ever, home with his second wife, who recently had a stroke.

I hate that he represents this country when he travels abroad.

Yes, McCain served his country. No one can take that from him. But let's face it. Benedict Arnold served his country too. Indeed, Arnold's military record was far more impressive than McCain's.

Benedict Arnold led the Continental Army to many victories; he exhausted his personal fortune to pay his troops; he received serious wounds that crippled him for life.

But, in the end, he turned traitor.

Edcoil: All's well that ends well. Thanks for posting my piece. And, as for McCain, I agree with you 100 percent – he's corrupt to the core. FRegards, RP

Mark Levin Reads My Article On-Air… But Credits the Wrong Author!

I was honored this evening to hear Mark Levin read my Moonbat Central blog entry "John McCain Gets Cash from Soros" on his WABC radio talk show, sometime around 7:10 to 7:15 pm Eastern Time. Unfortunately, rather than crediting the story to me, Mark said that one Clarice Feldman had written the piece on FreeRepublic.com!

I called Mark's show while he was still on the air, attempting to alert him to the error, but a young lady claiming to be his producer hung up on me three times.

So how did this case of mistaken identity come about? Well, it turns out that a Freeper calling himself Edcoil posted my piece at FreeRepublic earlier today and accidentally credited the blog entry to American Thinker writer Clarice Feldman – a perfectly understandable error, considering the bizarre manner by which the American Thinker displayed my piece on its Web site (go here). FreeRepublic founder Jim Robinson kindly took time from his busy schedule to fix the error on Edcoil's post. Thanks, Jim!

The moral of the story? Well, as Harry Truman famously observed, "It's amazing how much can be accomplished if no one cares who gets the credit."

By the way, it turns out that Clarice Feldman is a very astute writer who shares many of my pet peeves. I particularly enjoyed her article, "The CIA's War on Bush," and intend to make a point of reading Ms. Feldman more regularly.

You should read all of what I wrote so people including you won't be taking me out of context. I also said I wish he wasn't in congress. I've not been thrilled with him at all.

"I can't help but like the guy. To me it looks like he says what he feels and he tries to do what he believes is right even if it might hurt him politically. That doesn't make him right all the time, but it makes him a better man than most of those worthless tools in Congress and the Senate."

Like when he called the Swift Boat Veterans Dishonest and dishonorable? Or perhaps you think the McCain-Feingold CFR which limited our political free speech was the "right thing" to do? Is it that he has allied himself with the gun-control lobby that you like? I put McCain in the same boat as Bill O'Reilly and Bill Clinton. Birds of a feather.

Richard Poe responds: My apologies. I didn't mean to take you out of context. I just wanted to respond to your point about McCain's military service, so that's the part I quoted. And, the fact is, I agree 100 percent with your point about his service. McCain's military record can never be taken from him, nor should it. He earned it.

That said, I think we both agree that it's time to remove this man from public life. As with Benedict Arnold before him, McCain couldn't go the distance. His patriotism wore out. McCain no longer serves America. Now he serves Soros.

You are free to have your opinion. I don't care much for politicians. I think most of them are scumbags. My gut feeling about McCain is that he is a good man. Again, that wouldn't make him always right. But if I want to like the guy, I'm going to like him. If you don't like him, fine. If you have a problem with me liking him, well, you can do something that would be against the rules for me to say.

The money trails always seem to lead back to this demon.

Put me on it if you start one. Soros is the forerunner for the antichrist.
