You are Terri Schiavo.
You are lying in a bed, with your brain reduced to performing the most rudimentary functions. You wake up. You sleep. Sometimes you respond to basic stimuli. You make noises open to interpretation by the hopeful.
You are awake but not awake. You died but are still alive. It is a cruel hoax played on those who love you.
There are thousands of people who have been in a similar situation. They have had their feeding tubes pulled with no fanfare.
But they did not have a husband who wanted to pull the tube and parents who did not. For reasons beyond me, they can't work it out. And you can't cast the deciding vote.
You are Terri Schiavo. Whose side are you on? Your husband says it was your request, back when you had a working brain, that you not be kept alive under these circumstances.
If God is up there waiting, isn't that a better place to be?
Or should you go to your parents if that brings them comfort?

Will do. Thanks for the info.
Are you saying that Terri should not be taken off her feeding tubes?
Considering all Terri has been through she still struggled to stay alive, seems if she wanted to die so badly she would have given up the fight long ago.
Why someone on her behalf does not sue for divorce from her adulterous husband is beyond me.
Mr. Thomas can kill all the members of his family he wants, but the issue of Terri should be made by her family (family of origin, not the sub-human husband).
You sit in your office writing as if you can know the thoughts and feelings of a woman you never met. You decide whose life is good enough to live, and whose is so meaningless that they should not be "allowed" to die, but who should be slowly starved to death. You write in a calm, simple way about how murder is a perfectly acceptable choice because the person being murdered doesn't do such meaningful things as write for Newsday, have a hit record, or do political fundraisers.
You are Mike Thomas, writing in that spare, reasonable style of op-ed writers who drag this method out to fool people into thinking you are "just folks" and "straight talking" when in fact you are proposing we take a giant step down the road to offing anyone folks like Mike Thomas decides aren't cutting it. So calm. So spare. So bereft of truth.
But it's ok, because the person you want to kill, calmly, rationally, isn't someone YOU care about, but someone else's daughter.
You are Mike Thomas, and you haven't got a freakin clue.
That's exactly what I'm saying. You don't starve people to death. Especially disabled people.
Thomas is a dumbass. Don't even waste your time.
You are Darkwolf377 and you NAILED it! :)
I haven't really followd this much since the last time they took her tubes out. Didn't she last several weeks then? And then they put them back because she was emaciating?
WOW. nice.
6 Days- and they only put the tube in because a law passed the legislature and Jeb issued an execuative order. They wouldn't put the tube back in because she was emaciating- that is the whole point of removing the tube.
Terri ping! If anyone would like to be added to or removed from my Terri ping list, please let me know by FReepmail!
