A Day in the Life of President Bush [George & Laura Abroad] (photos): 2.23.05

Joined by the First Lady and the Secretary of State, President Bush spoke to US troops at Wiesbaden Army Airfield Base, and met with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder to discuss a range of issues from climate change and Iran to a German call to overhaul NATO. He and Schroeder met with a group of young German professionals: Link to Q&A and Bush's brief remarks here, worth reading for his remarkable comments linking energy supply to the September 11 attacks, and discussing nuclear power in America. [Ever notice that the heads of state address one another by their first names but our Senators and Congressmen use titles when talking with or about one another?]

Link to WH Current News.

The Bush's left Germany and arrived in Slovakia.

The White House web site changed their daily photos to a slide show and I don't know how to copy them to this thread. Here's the link if you want to see them.

Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island.

QUOTES: President thanks U.S. troops at Wiesbaden Army Airfield Base, saying, "You are carrying out challenging duties with skill and honor. And today I bring you a message from back home: The American people are grateful to you. Your communities are proud of you. And as you defend the cause of freedom, America stands with you."

Regarding meeting with Schroeder, President Bush shows his diplomatic skills: "I appreciate so very much the strong cooperation between Germany and the United States when it comes to sharing intelligence and to working together. ... And I want to thank you for that good work."

Exchanging toasts with Schroeder: "It is in my nation's interest that Europe be strong. We want a strong partner for peace and freedom. We can't have good, strong relations with Europe if we don't have good relations with Germany."

I have yet to see, and hope I never shall, a photo of Laura Bush with any other leader or leader's spouse or where the other woman eclipsed Laura. This is not to say that some of these other women have not been very attractive, decent, warm people. It's just that Laura outshines them all.

Some of these first photos are either late pick-ups or repeats from Tuesday. (I'm not taking the time to contrast and compare what is at the top end of yahoo's photos today, with yesterday's many pictures, so we'll all just have to suffer through duplicates if they, indeed, are such!)

Flanked by Greece's Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis, left, and European Union President Jean-Claude Juncker of Luxembourg at right. They debated issues from terrorism and global warming to rebuilding Iraq and curbing Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Jacques Chirac and European Union President and PM of Luxembourg Jean-Claude Juncker, right, talk to Bush during a "family photo" with European Union leaders in Brussels, Belgium, Tuesday. Also pictured, middle row from left to right: Malta Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi; Belgium's Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt; Hungary's Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany; and Sweden's Prime Minister Goran Persson.

Please note how the caption source (I think it was Reuters) put the word terror in single quote marks: "First lady Laura Bush thanked US troops based in Germany for their work in the war on 'terror,' as anti-war protesters across the country geared up for her husband's arrival."

Attorney Edward MacMahon, Jr. speaks about the charges against his client, Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, 23, a U.S. citizen, outside the U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va., on Tuesday. Abu Ali, a former Virginia high school valedictorian who was detained in Saudi Arabia as a suspected terrorist was charged Tuesday with conspiring to assassinate President Bush and with supporting the al-Qaida terrorist network.

Yesterday and earlier today we were discussing on the dose a photograph that had been sent to people I think it was from the RNC which shows W in jeans and Laura in a green mint top. We were discussing somebody posting it but unfortunately no one around at that time that had the photo had a scanner OhioWFan suggested I asked early tonight if anyone who had the photo and a scanner could post the photo later on once the all clear is given. Thanks

More really cool photos of Condi and the troops ...

Winston Churchill said he felt like he was walking with destiny when he finally came to power to confront the Nazi challenge. I see many similarities between him and U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who, in this photo, is shown receiving applause from soldiers of the 1st Armored Division at Weisbaden Army Airfield Base in Germany, February 23
