Bush scuffles with Chilean guards at summit
Telegraph (UK) ^ | 11/22/04 | David Rennie

The president went to South America to counter suggestions of arrogance but shambles at dinner leaves his hosts unimpressed.

...snip...
The cancellation came after days of mounting disputes between Mr Bush's security detail and the Chilean palace guard, a branch of the Carabineros paramilitary police force.

A senior Chilean diplomat told a local newspaper, El Mercurio: "President Lagos considered it unacceptable that the principal leaders of the nation, and distinguished business leaders should be forced to submit to an inspection that approached humiliation."

Both sides accused the other of over-zealousness, with Chilean officials mocking US agents for peering and reaching inside two antique cannon in the palace to make sure they could not be fired at Mr Bush.

...snip...
Chilean guards were also involved in a shoving match with Chinese bodyguards accompanying President Hu Jintao at the Apec summit, successfully preventing the Chinese guards from following their head of state into a meeting with Mr Lagos.

What are these idiots' problems? Don't we let the Queen's security guards take care of her when she is in the US?

Sounds like the 'machismo' of a very underdeveloped country with a HUGE inferiority complex. These guys seem to have fought with the Secret Service guy, who wasn't all that secret to them. They had to know who he was. And HE wasn't going to accompany the President, you see.

This is very serious stuff. A backwards country like that is also just the place some nutcase could take a shot at a visiting dignitary. They strip him of his security detail, and say - now walk down that dark path.

President Bush should have not gone to Chile if his staff could not work out such basic, primitive security arrangements beforehand. He's not just George Bush. He's the President of the supposed last superpower on the globe.

World War III has yet to be fought.

It's pretty much acknowledged by experts all over the world that WWIII was the Cold War.

WWIII was the Cold War.

No, it was the so-called, Cold War, which apparently is still on if you consider the recent warnings of the Soviets about new missiles that could penetrate any US missile shield. I mean, I WANT . . . to give Reagan credit for ending the Cold War. But the Soviets don't make it easy.

Sorry but those are Russians not Soviets. Haven't been any Soviets around for awhile now.

Be careful. The British paper you are reading is a friend of conservative America, The Telegraph. There is nothing more pro-US than it.

Want to see real lies on British media? go over to al-Guardian, Daily "How can 59 million Yanks be so dumb" Mirror, and The "Mourning Mode on 4 November" Independent.

As I watched the tapes, I thought that if someone were about to attack the President, might he not want to momentarily separate the President from his security.

I thought this was a very dangerous situation for our President.

And you think their statement is factual? Maybe you should confine your praise of the Telegraph to a simple statement that they do not lie as often as the rest. But in this case, I stand by my post.
