Bush scuffles with Chilean guards at summit
Telegraph (UK) ^ | 11/22/04 | David Rennie

Posted on 11/21/2004 9:26:13 PM PST by Dubya_gal

The president went to South America to counter suggestions of arrogance but shambles at dinner leaves his hosts unimpressed.

...snip...
The cancellation came after days of mounting disputes between Mr Bush's security detail and the Chilean palace guard, a branch of the Carabineros paramilitary police force.

A senior Chilean diplomat told a local newspaper, El Mercurio: "President Lagos considered it unacceptable that the principal leaders of the nation, and distinguished business leaders should be forced to submit to an inspection that approached humiliation."

Both sides accused the other of over-zealousness, with Chilean officials mocking US agents for peering and reaching inside two antique cannon in the palace to make sure they could not be fired at Mr Bush.

...snip...
Chilean guards were also involved in a shoving match with Chinese bodyguards accompanying President Hu Jintao at the Apec summit, successfully preventing the Chinese guards from following their head of state into a meeting with Mr Lagos.

I know this story has been reported here, but I thought I'd post this U.K. version of events. It has a few details (exerpted above) that I haven't seen elsewhere.

Sounds like World War V will be vs Chile and our allies will be the Chinese. (WW3 was Cold War, WW4 is War on Terrorism)

I mean, everyone just knows that antique cannons can't ever be rendered operational again.

Just like everyone knew that civilian jets couldn't be hijacked and flown into Shanksville, the Pentagon and WTC.

Silly, overzealous us. < |:/~

I think it is interesting that it wasn't just Bush that was having problems--security guards for the Chinese president was blocked too. But he didn't intervene apparently....

hey, David Rennie , STHU!

Mr. Bush has also been accused of 'ignoring' South America since 9/11'...

"hey, SA, can't you see we got a little sit-u-achion here?"

The only thing the rest of the world understands right now is MONEY (like how much we are gonna give them) and
FORCE (like duck if you hear them engines overhead!).

Had to take a peek at what the freaks at that unmentionable "progressive" website are saying about this, and a few of them had the take that President Bush (although that's not what they called him), by taking the action he did, hurt the integrity of the Presidency.

But (other) Presidents getting smokers from interns is okay with them, apparently.

What are these idiots' problems? Don't we let the Queen's security guards take care of her when she is in the US? It seems to me that we NEVER tried to deny the Soviets the use of their security details either.
Only a real bush league operation would try to interfere with the US Secret Service detail protecting the president. Even more incredible when they attempt to deny him his own protection during wartime!

Mr Bush is also accused of neglecting Latin America since September 11.

Awwww, poor babies.

Interesting that the Chilians were able to keep out the Chinese body guards. Bet that doesn't happen again, especially after President Bush was so successful at stunning them into submission.

They think this is funny? They think this is a game? Pardon my language, but screw them.

DUmmies would sooner pound their own fingers with meat tenderizers than admit that this (TWO TERM) President of the United States is a real man - much less more of a man than anyone in their own party (with the possible exception of Zell Miller).

If a Democrat did this, they would think it was the coolest thing in the world. Of course, that will have to remain a fantasy.

Oh, didn't you watch Fox tonight? It wasn't a civilian jet in the Pentagon, it was a military fighter jet orchestrated by members of the military under the command of Dick Cheney. And I heard Bush Sr. was spotted with Elvis talking about both their roles in the JFK assassination too. :)

Note the British Press always start their articles with a lie! I dispute, and ask where they can prove the assertion that the meeting in Chile was to overcome the impression of arrogance. Like we care!!

lol....it was on Geraldo's show, wasn't it? That guy was certifiable.

He of course never answered the question about the hundreds of people on that civilian flight who died that day. It would be interesting to hear where he thought they all went.

But this line is being pushed by this Canadian writer and others. And then the Lefties jump on board, too.

I see no thread on this guys work, either (I think his name is Zwicker.)

yea it was on Geraldo, there were similar things mentioned in Gibson's show, but that interview on Geraldo was the kicker. I love how he never answered that question about the people like you said. I've yet to hear any one of these Pentagon conspiracy theorists answer that question either. When liberals are confronted with irrefutable facts their brains melt down. Like when O'Donnell went psycho on Scarborough Country with John O'Neill a month ago. When he finally was forced to let O'Neill speak and was confronted with several facts, he just ignored them and reverted back to his same "where are the initials/liar" tirade. Geraldo just cut the guy off and ended the interview when he specifically mentioned Cheney. Here's a kook video regarding that whole Pentagon theory: http://members.shaw.ca/freedomseven/pentagonlies.swf
