As night wore on, glee became gloom

BOSTON — When Sen. John Edwards took off from Orlando International Airport in Florida early Tuesday evening for the victory celebration here, the mood on his campaign plane was nothing short of ebullient.
The sheer volume of voters suggested an electorate looking for a change. And early exit polling indicated they had broken convincingly for Mr. Edwards and Sen. John Kerry.
When Mr. Edwards landed in Boston at 9:15 that night, according to several people on the plane, the mood reversed as reporters and staffers turned on their phones and computers and learned the race was not the slam dunk they'd thought it was.

[snip]

The plan was for a small group of reporters and photographers to join Mr. Kerry for a few minutes. But as the night wore on, the campaign announced that he would not be made available.
Shortly before midnight, after several key battleground states appeared locked up by President Bush, an unsmiling Vanessa Kerry walked up the street past Secret Service agents and into her father's house.
The news only grew more grim.

But the campaign made it clear that there would be no concession if there were still votes to be counted. At one point, Mr. Kerry was spied by reporters through a third-floor window of his house, walking back and forth and ducking down several times.

[snip]

After Ms. Cahill's statement, the campaign decided to dispatch Mr. Edwards to the "victory celebration" to explain to supporters that until all the votes are counted in Ohio, the campaign would not be conceding anything to Mr. Bush.

[snip]

So, shortly before 11 a.m., Mr. Kerry and his campaign decided to call Mr. Bush and concede, but still demand that all the Ohio votes be counted.

You know I think I enjoyed it even more that the "exit polls" showed a clear win for Kerry. Nothing like getting them all giddy and then squashing them, it's even more fun than just beating them from the get go.

It was almost as if the libs (who were the ones, after all, responsible for the exit polls in the first place) had played a cruel, sick joke...on themselves.

I'm glad we could take away their joy, but I was almost physically ill and could not watch for several hours after hearing the exit polls. I watched a movie and prepared myself for the unthinkable.

American voters spoke loudly and with their hearts.

The result caught the media and the liberals completley off-guard. They "mis-underestimated" the American people.

John Kerry was such an arrogant liar. A spinner and a lie-at-any-costs candidate. He piled on the lies as election day approached. He tried the scorched earth distortions and lies that served him well when he beat William Weld in the 1996 Senate race. That's how Kerry got the reputation of being a "great closer".

But to no avail. The American people said, "Sorry, but no sale!" I revel in the defeat of this vain, pompous, botoxed windbag. I'm happy to see him beaten down and defeated along with Teresa and the rest of his darn family. Not the way I think about most Democrats

''President Bush decided to give Senator Kerry the respect of more time to reflect on the results of this election,'' Card said.

At 1:26 a.m., Kerry campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill issued the following statement: "The vote count in Ohio has not been completed. There are more than 250,000 remaining votes to be counted. We believe when they are, John Kerry will win Ohio."

Mary Beth is "fair game" for being a closet idiot.

What?!! 'Ya mean the left was self-deluded until the very end??? Surprise, surprise! NOT. (That's why I wasn't upset by the early exit poll results: I knew they were probably just fooling themselves yet again and, par for the course, trying to fool the rest of us, too.)

Great post.

I have never seen a more transparently phony human being in my life than John Kerry.
The guy's whole life has been one long uninterrupted lie, from the staged Vietnam "on patrol with an M-16" footage, to the two-time gigolo jackpots, to the "I have a plan - - see my website" candidacy for President.

Incredibly, Massachusetts will likely keep him as one of their liberal Senators-for-life.

Thanks. I used to live and vote in Massachusetts and never questioned John Kerry's lies about Vietnam. He has a sort of hero status there for being the courageous Vietnam Veteran who wasn't afraid to speak out against the war. That is the Massachusetts mentality and the mentality of many of the liberal Americans who voted for this transparent phony (your words) on Nov 2nd.
