What is going on in FLORIDA...Post here.

Posted on 11/02/2004 6:08:43 AM PST by Bushite

(Miami) Okay...My wife is at a precinct in Northern Hialeah/Southern Opalocka (She is pushing for the construction Bonds for Dade County and of course working as my Mole........)

That area is 50/50 really....you have alot of middle class Cubans and middle class African Americans....

The NAACP is out front observing....

A Republican Poll Watcher told my wife that he can't figure out where the Dem GOTV is...they (NAACP) were expected to be at the opening of the polls with a Bus load and he was there early to wait for them....(They have not arrived...and the NAACP folks said that they will not bus in to that station.

Lines are long....some African Americans walked out off the lines and where confronted by the NAACP officials...some ugly words...the African Americans left...saying "AH...it's really not that important to vote this year."

My wife has been talking to a Black Lady that is working at the precinct and they got around to talking about who they were voting for and the Black Lady said that she was voting for Bush because "He's been okay...and I don't like Kerry, although Bush shouldn't have been there in the first place cuz Gore won Florida." For some reason...Al Gore is loved by African Americans...there is NO energy FOR Kerry in the African American community.

I got off the phone a little while ago with Dixie Mom, who is in Hillsboro county (Tampa) working as a GOP poll watcher. She is one of the THREE GOP poll watchers there. I jotted down a few notes and hope I get this all right.

She said that things were going well there overall, though it's a long ballot so it's a little slow going because of that. Waits have averaged 40 - 90 minutes, so not too bad.

She did relate of couple of minor incidents that were promptly and happily taken care of without any trouble. Early this morning, some AFL-CIO workers showed up and were passing out voter cards showing folks how to mark their ballots. These knuckleheads claimed to be "non-partisan" workers when the poll watchers pointed them out to sheriff deputies, lol! Non-partsan ..... yeah, right! Dixie Mom said that they went over to the Kerry lawyers and left quickly and without incident, though.

She said there has not been any voter intimidation whatsoever as of noon today there.

One last interesting story Dixie Mom related to me. She said that she talked to a GOP attorney who leases an office out to the Kerry-Edwards campaign. So he is their landlord! He told Dixie Mom that they are REALLY disorganized, too! Imagine that! DemokRATS being disorganized, LOL!

Well, I hope I got all that right. But that's her story, and I'm stickin' to it! :^D

Dixie Mom, when you get back to your computer, feel free to correct me if I got anything backwards or whatever, okay? :^)

If I hear anything more, I will be back here with updates.

This has been MeekOneGOP, at the Florida Freeper headquarter chapter here in Dallas county, Texas! :^)

[ this is a clear breach of the mandated 50 ft. law but I guess the law only applies to Republicans. ]

Thats because some republicans won't get off their ass and DO SOMETHING about it..

Here in Lee County, precinct 11, orderly, mostly seniors, only Dem. signs out front.

Pastor at the church said he was asked to measure the distance from the signs to the building 10 times...Bush voters care!

Phoned local GOP headquarters and was told that all the GOP signs were gone, that every time they were put up, they were being stolen. Cape Coral, someone in a yellow pickup was tossing Bush/Cheney signs in the back - and the witness helpfully provided a license plate number.

Also, someone poured acid on a car, and blamed it on the GOP. Didn't ask details, sorry...but the Lee County GOP worker was calm, solid, would gladly provide details, I think.

Worker shared a prayer, and reminded me that as long as signs were tasteful, it is still a free country and we can make (and guard) signs.

Heading out with my Veterans for Bush - Cheney (in honor of my dad, and FRIends) (including the message in large black letters: DO NOT STEAL THIS SIGN!).

Hoo ah!

I agree. I was poll watching this morning in a black surburb of Orlando at a Black Church. Great people and only about 200 people turned out. I had time to look over their charter school and plans for a senior center on a lake. The enthusiasm is so low. Only two long haired crazy white dudes were waving signs out on the street.

Meanwhile in the main Bush office on Semoran they have herded GOP volunteers in the back room because IPTAY Union guys are suppose to be coming to cause ANOTHER incident (they broke a guys wrist there earlier in month). I am returning to my poll for the last shift and think maybe there will be some more voters after work time. Remember Florida has a panhandle that is an hour behind the penisula. The panhandle is pro pro Bush so don't believe anything about Floridat until 8:30 eastern time.

I feel in bones it is going for Bush. Bush place was turning away volunteers by the way.

"Boca Raton"

My friend down there observing on the republican side said that they are letting "dozens of unregistered voters just walk in and register". I sent him the fruad hotline number, but still. Also, last week he got someone fired in Florida for going into booths with people by himself and sometimes even hitting the buttons for them. Totally nuts.

He said the dems were passing out sample ballots containing only the dem candidates names(making it easy). That way you could sit down and pick the right folks. He said there was a stretch limo parked in front of the polling place with JFK signs all over it.

Anybody have the contact numbers for some Florida GOP help in getting this reported?

My son's in Broward, my sister's in Pensacola/Escambia(waiting for a new roof, walls, and fence). I think that's 4 votes for W(family vote count) in FL.

They've had a bomb threat at City Island

(Daytona Beach, the same place the memory card failed & they had to recount 13,000 votes)

so some evacuations. and a bomb dog at work.
I'm sure this will be considered to be a Republican plot.

If it is a bomb threat at the library precinct, that is a small business, pro Bush area. Kerry precincts are mostly minority areas.

I live in the semi-affluent Tampa suburb of Brandon and I walked right in and voted, only waiting a minute because the person who walked in ahead of me had the same last initial. The poll workers I chatted with said there was a 2 hour wait at 7am but by 11am it had gone down to nothing- at 2pm when I voted not even all the machines were in use. This is a pretty Repulican area I'd say, Hillsborough Co. only went for Bush by 11k votes in 2000 but I was at Sunday's rally in Tampa with Bush and I think the base is fired up and Bush will win HillCo. by a bigger margin and Florida walking away. Gov. Jeb claims Rep new voters substantially outnumber Dems and I believe it to be true- our unemployment is a lot lower than the national average and the economy is booming, plus with a Hispanic on the ballot for Senator (Martinez) I think a lot of Cuban-Americans are fired up and I don't see them splitting the ticket.

Ack 6-9 more hours and we'll know, I hope.

Urgent message from VIRGINIA to my fellow freepers in FLORIDA. Please go out to the polls. Even if you have already voted, you can help convince others to vote for W. My wife has been at the polls pretty much all day convincing people to vote for W. People are coming to the polls who are STILL UNDECIDED !!!! A phrase or two spoken by you can change a mind. My wife has been doing it all day. We know you have been working hard and we appreciate your efforts !!!

"there is NO energy FOR Kerry in the African American community"

Man! This is so true. I teach in Compton, CA and the number of older Balck Republicans going to vote seemed to have come out the wood work! I have never seen so many "real" Black republican in my life. People in their 70's, 80's and 90's. Even the brotha's and sista's of voting age are looking sideways at John Kerry. I wrote Hugh Hewitt about this a couple of day ago in relation to some of my more 'hardcore' gang students I work with. Most of them boil it down to this; They look at Kerry and see that he is, (in their words) "a weak a_ _ Punk!"

They don't like the fact that they don't hear from "these fools" - (their words again) for 3 1/2 years and all of sudden when it's time for the "Black Vote" they appear mysteriously in our churches. I'm really amazed at all of this and truth be told it's about time we see things for what they really are.

As far as President Bush, they respect his strength first, but as they say, "This brotha (President Bush) is down for the cause!" They don't understand much about the political issues, but as they say: "I trust him to have my back before Kerry's ass anyday!" Whew! Why don't the pollsters come down this way?

I read the polls stating that about 18% of the black vote will go to President Bush this time around, up from 9% in 2000. Take it from this Black Republican teacher from Compton, CA those figures don't reflect the truth at all. It's got to be more than 25% or more. And if that's the case Bush wins by a landslide - this has got to be Kerry's worse nightmare!

It makes me sad to no-end that our people have been sold a mindset of utter dependency on a party that feels it can only show up in black churches in the last 30 days of a national election. I won't even speak on our "so-called black leaders". I'll start to hemorrhage and if I do, my students wouldn't understand why I'm bleeding all over the place. ;-)
