SEPT. JOBS NUMBERS COULD HURT BUSH WHITE HOUSE
BY JOHN CRUDELE --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
October 7, 2004 -- THE president shouldn't expect much help from the numbers massagers at the Labor Department. In fact, the statistics gatherers who toil in the bowels of the agency could soon make President Bush's life miserable and put his re-election in jeopardy.
And this could all happen tomorrow just 12 hours before the next presidential debate when the Labor Department announces the number of jobs created during September.
This will be the last employment report before the election. And here's how things stack up: The experts who've been inexpertly wrong most of this year think the Labor Department will announce 150,000 new jobs in September and an unchanged unemployment rate at 5.4 percent.
But for growth to be that good, or even better, the economy will have had to produce real jobs for a change because there aren't going to be any beneficial assumptions (a.k.a. "guesses") coming from the Labor Department.
If a number in the vicinity of 150,000 is announced before the financial markets open tomorrow, some of the heat will be taken off the president when he confronts John Kerry in the second televised debate.

I don't know about this month's report...
Let's just hope its over 100k.
Who knows what the hurricanes may have done...
Good point.
Wasn't Charlie in mid-August, right when the September report starts?
ugh
Very scary if the job #s are low. That combined with the WMD report and all the harnful statementes lately from Bremer, etc. can make this a lousy October for W.
Hurricanes. More jobs in construction and repair? Fewer jobs because places of business damaged? Break even?
I am still not worried
Bush will win 58%
I hope you're correct- but 58 percent is dreaming unless Kerry gets caught with Osama's goat.
thank god, i was thinking of registering or volunteering some more but now we can all stay home
Hey, how am now I supposed to go to bed with that visual? Thanks alot :o).
I don't like the defeatism I am hearing here. For one thing, you are giving fuel to the enemy. For a second thing, this country and Bush understand each other, that's what the Rats never understood. The American people understand that the hurricanes will have their temporary effect. The American people will understand that the President wants to protect them so badly that it is better to err on the side of over-protection rather than the Kerry flip-flopping under-protection.
Bush 51 - kerry 45 - other 4
good one! there is definitely a middle ground between over-confidence and defeatism.
Bush 51.5, Kerry 47.0 Other: 1.5
there will be hardly any "Other" vote. The Greens and Commies will go home to roost with Kerry and the Libertarian and Constitution Party members will side with Bush.
I have said it since August. 58% may seem like a dream. But you are looking at the the worst the Democrats could come up with.
Two Liberal Senators that have a horrific record.
We win.
The Commies ARE the Democrats.
agreed, but I was referring to the the actual Communist Parties that put candidates up for election. I.E. CPUSA, Social Workers' Party, International Socialist Organization, etc.
Didn't the WH already say they were expecting great numbers .. if so .. wouldn't that mean the WH had some inside information as to what the numbers might be ..??
If so .. this is a feeble attempt to drag down the WH. I'm so sick of this garbage!!
