[HUGE POSSIBLE SCANDAL] 1,000 cases of suspicious voter registrations
Cleveland Plain Dealer ^ | 9/24/2004 | Steve Luttner and Michael Scott

Posted on 09/24/2004 7:25:29 AM PDT by amordei

More than 1,000 voter registration forms and absentee ballot requests may be fraudulent in Lake and Summit counties, where investigations of irregularities are broadening.

Lake County Sheriff Daniel Dunlap said Thursday that he will investigate an attempt to register a dead person and other possibly fraudulent documents that were submitted to the Lake County Board of Elections. Advertisement

Dunlap also said he has notified the FBI and the Ohio secretary of state.

"We want to make sure the election here in Lake County is the best possible," Dunlap said. "I don't know if this was a concerted effort or if it was just an overzealous, independent person here and there who decided to push the envelope."

Elections officials have said hundreds of absentee ballot applications and dozens of voter registration cards are in question. Lake County Prosecutor Charles Coulson, also involved in the probe, said the problems are more significant than originally thought.

"We've seen voter fraud before, but never on this level," Coulson said Thursday. "I grew up in Chicago and this looks like the politics of Mayor Daley in the '50s and '60s."

Lake election and law enforcement officials said their investigation is centered on absentee registration attempts by the nonpartisan NAACP's National Voter Fund and an anti-Bush, nonprofit group called Americans Coming Together, or ACT Ohio.

The National Voter Fund could not be reached Wednesday or Thursday at its Washington, D.C., offices.

A spokesman for ACT Ohio, however, said the group believed the allegations would prove groundless.

Several registration applications submitted by campaign volunteers for a candidate are also being scrutinized, Lake elections board Director Jan Clair said.

None of the officials would identify the candidate, however.

The RNC really needs to confront these problems. Demonrats will attempt to pull off this voter fraud and I hope the Republicans are not just going to allow this to continue.

There was a story on Fox News one day this week about voter fraud using NURSING HOME PATIENTS who have Alzheimer's. The "employees" get absentee ballots for them and THEY VOTE. It makes me SICK. Anyone who has a family member in the nursing home, PLEASE check to see if they are being USED.

Have been following this thread, and the news articles, with interest...no "up-dates" in today's PD, but whether it's the "tip of the iceberg" (quite likely, methinks) or not, it's good the "authorities" are on to at least this much of it, and it's crucial these incidences continue to be uncovered, since I'm sure it's happening nationwide, and especially in rural/"flyover" areas!

Kcvl, you've given me an idea...crass though it may seem, what's to stop folks from visiting local nursing homes whether or not they have a relative or friend there?? Just to enquire, or course, and wouldn't that be a reasonable exercise of one's civic duty??

Con, good for you working the polling place! I asked about it myself when I went to vote in the primaries, someone did call me last week, which I have yet to return, but you have inspired me to do so...thanks! (I'm west, Cuyahoga County...hoping Hermann can unseat "Dennis!", LOL!)

james, thanks for the info. on voter preferences and voting machines...I had the idea that Lake County was likely to lean GOP, which is exactly why it's a target I expect! Close enough "split" to plausibly go Dem. without arousing too much suspicion, and any FReepers in similar communities/precincts really need to keep their eyes peeled for this sort of thing...how do we do that?!

Is there a web-site/blog devoted to vote-fraud reports? Sort of a "clearing-house" that would list previous incidents, etc.? And possible "preventive measures"?

Exit pollsters call in, RATS call up the the extra voters that they have hired, to tip the scales to the rats advantage!

Is this legal or illegal voter fraud?

How do we make it bigger than Rathergate now? I agree it will just "disappear" as a problem, but some trumped up deal will probably be blown up all out of proportion on the Republican Party later on. It WOULD BE trumpeted in the headline if it were Republican.

Agreed.
Mafia Princess Capri Cafaro is going to steal her seat from LaTourette, and make sure the district goes for Kerry, as well.
They just don't get it - this is a conservative county - even our colleges are conservative.

"We want to make sure the election here in Lake County is the best possible," Dunlap said. "I don't know if this was a concerted effort or if it was just an overzealous, independent person here and there who decided to push the envelope."

Multiply this by many more countys. I am sure this is problem all over the US. Our system has made registering to vote and multiple voting so easy that it is now a joke.

Count NM in there with massive voter fraud too. There*s already litigation over it. The RATS have been using convicted felons to register people to vote. I read that WI and FL are bad to.

The way it looks now, Kerry will win with a million votes more than there are residents in the US! Let*s see them explain that one. :)

This doesn't shock me in the least. The union bosses and mob bosses will resort to their decades old tactics of dead and illegal voter fraud to plump the Dem vote.

There might be the similiar problem here in Harrisburg Pa. There are people requesting absentee ballots mulitiple times and each time they are claiming a different party vote. I think they are attempting to get more then one ballot on the hopes that someones not paying attention.

Cleveland, Cleveland, Cleveland, CLEVELAND! </shaking head>

Newly elected Democrat mayor of East Cleveland admits killing a man in 1982 (in self-defense, of course), now the uncovering of massive vote fraud.

Something in the water, maybe? I mean, the Cuyahoga River hasn't caught fire in over 30 years, but someone is putting something in it. This is unbelievable.

A corrupt, dying, decaying, spiritless city. My head is spinning. Seriously.
