Kelley Wright just reported that CBS is expected to make a statement this morning regarding the documents!
They are going to announce that they stand behind the memos "1000%" (remember George McGovern's famous support for Tom Eagleton's vice presidential nomination), Dan Rather is taking a job chairing the Joseph Goebbels School of Political Journalism at Harvard and that Baghdad Bob will be Rather's replacement on the CBS Evening News.
okay, as long as usatoday is willing to check out the source, that is what matters.
i cant remember who asked the question (Brit hume maybe?).. but at the very core of this whole discussion is whether news media can just make somthing up and require the candidate (or person) to prove that what they are saying is false.. or if the media must be responsible and report truth, and then the candidate (or person) must prove untrue.
imo, it MUST be the latter. any of us can just make somthing up and post it. in many cases how can you prove a negative.
has anyone ever thought that maybe the reason why the president cannot speak to the memos spefically is because they were supposed to be "personal" memos. i cannot claim to know what any of my former superiors might have written about me in any files they might have had.
how was bush supposed to know this?
again, it is upto the media to check this stuff out - but they do not want to because they were in collusion mode.. think about it. DNC ad + kitty kelly book + this "expose'" all coming out at the same time?
whether we like it or not, this whole bit seems to have taken the pressure of kerry to sign his 180 document (notice the media has NOT pressured kerry to sign his 180 or the wench to release her tax statment.. hmm.. when was the last time that happened? maybe its because she is violating the law and funding 527s? NAH).
its all about collusion, baby. pure and simple. i dont know how or what we are going to do about it, but someone has to do SOMTHING.
It could get interesting.
Water buffalo!? Where?
Release scheduled for Thursday or Friday...said John Kerry was the star.
I agree. The statement will be that they do have the original documents (which they will produce), but they retyped them in Microsoft Word to protect their source. Which, quite frankly will still create a big yawn across the US. Yet CBS won't understand why, now that they have shown the charges to be accurate, nobody will care.
The reason they have been stone walling?
They have trying to get Bush to denounce the "forged" documents so they could blast him with the real ones. Thankfully, he didn't fall for it.
Wait until you see the smug satisfaction on Rather's face as he shows off the actual forms. Yet, also watch the frustration grow as every body gives him a big "so what".
Congressman Christopher Cox Requests Congressional Hearing on CBS Memogate
"Dear Chairman Upton:
This is a request that you commence a Subcommittee investigation into the continued use by CBS News of apparently forged documents concerning the service record of President George W. Bush intended to unfairly damage his reputation and influence the outcome of the 2004 presidential election.
In February 2001, the Energy & Commerce Committee held hearings calling the television networks to account for irresponsibly (and inaccurately) calling the outcome of the presidential election in Florida before the polls had closed. At those hearings, CBS News vowed that the competitive drive to get the story first would be subordinated to 'making sure we are correct,' given that the stakes --the outcome of the presidential election-- were so high....
Despite the growing abundance of the evidence that CBS News has aided and abetted fraud, the network has declined to reveal the source of the disputed documents. USA Today possesses the same documents, obtained independently from a person representing them to be authentic, and likewise is refusing to disclose his identity.
Given the shortness of time between now and the election which the apparent fraud is meant to influence, and the even shorter time before Congress is scheduled to adjourn, I strongly urge that the Subcommittee move with all deliberate speed to uncover the facts.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter within the Subcommittee's jurisdiction.
Sincerely,
Christopher Cox
U.S. Representative"
A LOT late. Unless of course they will be doing the right thing and firing some people, including Rather.
"....because, our viewing audience, this is my Last broadcast on the CBS Evening News. Just think how much you'll be missing me. You won't have Rather to kick around anymore...."
I don't know when they will release the smoke and put out the mirrors.
Should CBS produce "original" documents, they will have to explain why the Word copies look so indistinct. In other words, they are trapped by the very appearence of the "copies" which I maintain were made to look old by how they were produced.
If you only knew.
LOL.
Dan Rather thinks that when he plays hide and seek, if he can't see you, then you can't see him.
FOX RADIO just said STATEMENT FROM CBS AT NOON EASTERN.
The big problem with the re-typing scenario is that some of the documents had signatures and/or initials, and in CBS's case, words underlined or blacked out (they sexed the documents up with those markings - big mistake). No re-typing excuse will fly.
High noon?? Should be interesting. I'm so cynical regarding CBS. I expect they will continue stonewalling, then pull the victim card some more. Very clintonesque.
Dan Rather, "Its true! Its all true, or it ought to be. Bush needs to answer for this."
I was taught it was impossible to prove a negative. But that was when education had academic standards instead of social standards.
