Posted on 07/10/2004 1:49:22 AM PDT by thoughtomator
Former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, dispatched by the CIA in February 2002 to investigate reports that Iraq sought to reconstitute its nuclear weapons program with uranium from Africa, was specifically recommended for the mission by his wife, a CIA employee, contrary to what he has said publicly.
-------- snip! ----------
Wilson's assertions -- both about what he found in Niger and what the Bush administration did with the information -- were undermined yesterday in a bipartisan Senate intelligence committee report.

I have been so posting for months and have been excoriated daily as a DUer for my pains.
We do in fact have a good story to tell but we don't know how to tell a story good.
In other words, it depends on what the meaning of "is" is. Democrats such as Clinton and Wilson have turned the art of the baldfaced lie into a science.
It seems that negative stories about this were on page 1 many, many times. It was also a 48 times a day network radio news item several times. It is so frustrating that the truth gets so little publicity. I wonder if it will be mentioned at all on tomorrow's talking head shows.
Ping! Anything you know about this???
When you parade your hottie wife around D.C. parties and get her a photo spread in Vanity Fair, one must maintain appearances.
Speaking of weak and strong, just how many tea drinkers are there in Washington?
The Chinese claim to have invented tea. Emperor Shen Nung and all that rot. I've heard a better claim that tea was invented in an island province off of China -- a island with s distinct culture and langugage independent of China.
As always the big swallow the small unless LAW is respected, so that claim is lost except among the few surviving small found among the dust of the earth.
Free trade is lawless, and far from being a lever to improvement is more effeciently a slide to depravity and lawlessness. Better to support one's nieghbors job first -- has Mr. Bush forgotten that?
Prepare the tea, slaves -- for the EMPEROR!
We'll just have to wait and see. I wonder if Drudge has this linked?
I agree with you wholeheartedly. I hope you did not think my post was knocking anything you said on yours, as you'll note that I was actually using what you said in support of my comments.
I have noted posts from time to time asking that Bush do more, but it appears our views are in the minority. I think many on FR get awfully complacent by just reading here and not really listening to what even many Republicans, to say nothing of true "undecideds" are actually saying.
Those voices need to be heard and the message actually directed at them. Bush too often stops short of making a direct response to the media and to Democrats.
Here is what really gripes me...:
The intel reports concluded Iraq was "trying to buy urainium".
Wilson's report stated he'd "found no evidence Iraq had bought urainium".
Anybody see a difference here??????
Was Iraq TRYING????
Wilson's report is a lie!
"I'm just amazed this was printed in the Washington Post.
It must of killed them to do it."
Look at the Byline. Sue Schmidt wrote many stories during the Clinton Administration that did not please them. She is a straight shooter.
No, it's more like the Saudi Royal Family.
Congress is the American version.
They keep getting re-elected to a very exclusive country club where they are all members.
Like Leahy said - "I've been here before this administration took over, and I'll be here after they are gone".
It's the mindset.
Now if we threw them out after every term and replaced them with random Independents, they'd be so disorganized, they wouldn't be able to focus on taking our rights away, but would actually be representing their constituency.
Since Tenet asked for volunteers to go to Niger, and Plame offered up her lounge lizard hubby, wonder if Tenet told Novak?
The intel said they were trying to purchase it.
Wilson said that they hadn't bought it.
That doesn't mean they weren't actively trying to purchase.
Like I said, Clintonian.....
Shoeless Joe Wilson, whoda thunk it? Seems like every time the democRATs manufacture a scandal, it turns around and bites them in the a$$.
I recommend everybody go over and read the article about and reflect on the perfidy which occurred here. Somebody needs to go to jail, and it's not Cheney!

This story in today's Washington Post seems to indicate that Joe Wilson is a monumental liar, publicity hound and partisan hack. Truly a must-read. Spread the word.
What do the Republicans take the initiative on? I saw Jay Rockefeller shooting his mouth off about the Bush Administration's culpability in intelligence weaknesses. Instead of blasting the 'rats for their stated goal of politicizing the Intelligence committee, the Republican leaders roll over and offer up the leaker of the 'rats evil strategy.
"Since Tenet asked for volunteers to go to Niger, and Plame offered up her lounge lizard hubby, wonder if Tenet told Novak?"
Could well be. Who knows at this point looks like everyone who know the answers to the questions is taking an exit as fast as they can.
Joe Wilson claiming he did not know who sent him and would not recognize them if he met them on the street is what removes all his credibility. Thus far I have not read anywhere anyone standing up and claiming responsibility for sending old Joe Wilson to Africa. Joe Wilson described a meeting where he claimed not to know anyone there in that meeting.
Joe Wilson has no story when those he met with are identified and come clean accepting responsibility for selecting and sending him to Africa. As far as I am concerned it could have been a sitting Senator's staff that met with Joe Wilson and gave him his marching orders.
What I don't understand is why the Lefties have to lie all the time. There are perfectly valid questions about the war in Iraq and its aftermath. Why not make them an issue? Why all the lies?
Joe Wilson even lied to the Wash Post:
"The report also said Wilson provided misleading information to The Washington Post last June."
"I wonder if Drudge has this linked?"
If not, could you please e-mail him? I'd do it, but I don't have e-mail on my home pc. Thanks!
if anyone has the full article and would care to send it to me via freepmail, i'd be much obliged; i'm not registered with the compost.
i already monitor leftist rags around here in NYC - in keeping with Sun Tzu's dictum about knowing thine enemy - and my subsequent use of seasick pills to offset the nausea is bordering on toxic poisoning.
Well, I missed the show, but will look for the video on cspan.org and watch it later today. This thread does need to be kept alive all weekend. Sure hope Fox picks up on the news.
Serious question --
What are you doing to get the story out?
What do you recommend that "we" do to get the story out?
"It is time to hold the news media and politicians accountable."
And so how are you going to do that (besides your one vote)?
does anyone have a log-in for this? Bugmenot isn't working.
Saturday Edition, page A09. I wonder if the original "story" was on A09, I suspect it had a more prominent place.
Wilson's reports to the CIA added to the evidence that Iraq may have tried to buy uranium in Niger, although officials at the State Department remained highly skeptical, the report said.
Wilson said that a former prime minister of Niger, Ibrahim Assane Mayaki, was unaware of any sales contract with Iraq, but said that in June 1999 a businessman approached him, insisting that he meet with an Iraqi delegation to discuss "expanding commercial relations" between Niger and Iraq -- which Mayaki interpreted to mean they wanted to discuss yellowcake sales. A report CIA officials drafted after debriefing Wilson said that "although the meeting took place, Mayaki let the matter drop due to UN sanctions on Iraq."
According to the former Niger mining minister, Wilson told his CIA contacts, Iraq tried to buy 400 tons of uranium in 1998.
Did that last comment make it into Joe Wilson's book or his NYT op-ed last summer?
I am not at all surprised by this news, just by where it's appearing. Here is the thing, if you go back and read Wilson's comments from the beginning he seemed (at one point) content to learn that the Bush administration had another source for their claim. THEN, someone got a hold of him, I suspect promised him dollars and fame. That Joe Wilson is a liar who couldn't resist the spotlight isn't all of the news, I want to know who Wilson's "handlers" are.
Tenet didn't even know about it. These jokers did it 'on their own initiative.'
"Wilson stood by his assertion in an interview yesterday, saying Plame was not the person who made the decision to send him."
Notice Wilson doesn't deny she recommended hubby, just that she wasn't the one who made the final decision.
Of her memo, Wilson gets cute, doesn't risk a cleverly worded denial: "I don't see it as a recommendation to send me."he says, trying to turn it into a little ole innocent, perception dispute.
TOASTED!!! Wilson's sooooo over!!! Let's see how many times Kerry trots him out now.
I'd love to see Novak make Shields squirm...but alas, Novak is so such an addlebrained debater, Shields always manages to get the last word.
Democrats lie faster than the Pubbies have time to correct them. When they do correct them, the media doesn't report.
Pretty glib for someone with their pants on fire.
What are you doing to get the story out?
What do you recommend that "we" do to get the story out?
That's more than a serious question, it is a fair question.
I have published something approaching 1700 posts and a fair share of them have had to do with my (when I am speaking to Europeans,) "hobby" (when speaking to Americans I come clean, it is my "obsession") - getting conservatives into power and depriving liberals of power over me and my get.
Over time, I have made innumerable concrete suggestions about how to further the cause. I posted myself hoarse that the Estrada nomination offered an opportunity to shave off enough of the Hispanic community to deny democrats significant power for generations to come if the RNC would only seize the opportunity and go on Spanish radio a la Dick Morris. Alas, they would not.
I have argued that Bush should go to the very steps of the New York Times and announce these astonishingly good economic figures and take the agenda away from the left. I have observed that Clinton set the agenda every evening on the network news (where the most voters are still reached) and Bush could too if he were well advised, (our initiatives, Aids in Africa, immigration and space to name just three have been disasters.)
I have said that Bush must make the electorate understand that they (the terrorists) are trying to kill, literally, millions of Americans. That they are trying to destroy Pittsburg or Trenton or San Diego. In this he has failed but then he has only explicitly said so one time. Remember, you and I are junkies, but the soccer moms think everything is groóvy and would be even better if only Bush would only stop invading countries. Tell those mommies that Kerry is a walking threat to her kids.
I have posted that Bush should go to an unemployment office in Ohio and trumpet the good economic news and force the media to deal with it. He must tell America he has saved us and our jobs from recession with tax cuts and Kerry will kill the recovery and jobs with tax hikes. This always sells from Kennedy to Reagan.
There is not much more that I can do from where I live, Germany. Most of my neighbors could not distinguish a Republican from a Zoroastrian.
I do what I can on FreeRepublic and I know that it often sounds tendentious but I have no other way and I must write my conscience.

I thought your post was complementary of mine and I concur with you. Thank you.
In my post number 96 I addressed what should be done if you have time to take a look.
Too bad the story winds up in the Saturday paper. Wilson was also sent to Niger in 1999 at the request of his wife. Wilson is an inveterate liar. He is a disgrace to the Foreign Service.
