Read: Matthew 6:19-24
Riches are not forever. Proverbs 27:24
Bible In One Year: Job 32-33; Acts 14
From the 16th century comes a story of a probing conversation between an ambitious young man and a devout Christian named St. Philip Neri. The youth said to him excitedly,My parents finally agreed to my studying law!Philip asked simply,What then?
He replied,Then I shall become a lawyer! And then? pursued Philip. Then I shall earn lots of money, buy a country house, get a carriage and horses, marry a beautiful woman, and lead a delightful life!he responded.
Again Philip asked,And then? Then . . .The young man began reflecting for the first time on death and eternity. He realized that he had not acknowledged God in his plans and was building his life on temporal values.
The point of this story is not that riches are wrong. But if they become our central goal, we are ignoring eternity and trusting money, not God. Jesus said its impossible to love both money and God (Matthew 6:24), and He warned,Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, . . . but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven(vv.19-20).
Young and old alike must make important life-plans. But lets keep eternity in mind by always subjecting them to thewhat then? test. Joanie Yoder
The true measure of our wealth is the treasure we have in heaven.
Here you go, Mayor. Those in the U.S. Military might find this link of use: http://www.whiskeycreekpress.com/bestsellers.html.
My novel, Elective Decisions, has been released by the Creek Press. It is a political thriller with a conservative angle. It can be viewed at http://www.whiskeycreekpress.com/bestsellers.shtml. You can take a peek at the cover and read a couple of sample chapters at the site. This might be of interest to your listeners as many of them read fiction, but rarely get it from a conservative perspective. Thank you for taking the time to read this e-mail. Here is a short synopsis of the novel.
Chris Davis
Chris Smith desperately needs this last job for an extravagant retirement; he might just die trying. Chris Smith, a retired U.S. Army sniper, is now a paid mercenary. Growing up poor, he longs for the wealth he never had as a child. An opportunity arises for him to retire to a lavish lifestyle. This chance pits him against Joe, an old high school foe, running for President of the United States. Chriss high school friend, Mark Fields, is a journalist seeking an anchor position on network news. His ambition gets him a job as Joes campaign manager, and his natural curiosity to get to the truth places him in the line of fire. Hereford Turley, a retired U.S. Army Sergeant Major, hates the changes in the new Army. His obsession and prejudices have led him to Chris Smith. He is forced to take drastic actions to try to prevent the inevitable future. All three men find themselves making ambitious decisions. Over a few months, they will meet each other in a head on collision involving a political conspiracy.
CHRISTIAN FLAG I pledge allegiance to the Christian Flag, and to the Savior for whose kingdom it stands, one Savior, crucified, risen and coming again, with life and liberty to all who believe.
BIBLE I pledge allegiance to the Bible, God's Holy Word. I will make it a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path, and will hide its words in my heart that I might not sin against God.
AMERICAN FLAG I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Evenin' Misty. Proud to be in the company of your brother.
Thanks, Dave. He was a good guy.
We had a Fourth of July parade downtown on Sunday morning. Lots of colorful entries adorned with flags and bunting. According to the local paper this morning, the Veteran's groups received the most favorable response from the crowd.
The VFW and American Legion led the parade with the presentation of Colors. I became a crowd instigator when I rose and place my hand on my heart as the Colors passed each time. Many followed suit while others seemed oblivious of the fact. The lady sitting next to me said, "You guys are making me misty doing what you're doing." I told her "Good."
I might add, I displayed my sign-on-a-pipe - "Land of the Free, Because of the Brave" with Old Glory riding on top.
Got a LOT of thumbs up as parade participants read the sign while passing by, including CA State Senator, Jeff Denham.
Mornin', everybody ! Happy Tuesday !
