"Indecent Exposure"

John Kerry political cartoon.

June 9, 2004...

Kerry photo-ops Reagan casket

Presumptive Democrat presidential nominee John Kerry showed up at the Reagan Library on Tuesday afternoon to view the deceased former president’s casket, setting off a firestorm of reaction.

·        At issue: The need for a Kerry visit to the Reagan Library in California. As reported by Rush Limbaugh, a Kerry spokesperson had already announced Kerry would attend the State Funeral for Reagan on Friday in Washington, D.C.

·        At issue: The photographer accompanying Kerry into the Reagan Library. Clear guidelines (handed out to everyone prior to entering the library to view Reagan’s casket) state: “Absolutely no photography will be allowed inside the Library.” A photographer entered slightly ahead of Kerry and took pictures of Kerry while he was there. These pictures were posted as ‘Associated Press’ photos on YahooNews news 30 minutes after Kerry’s visit. [see photo below]

·        At issue: The timing of the Kerry visit to the Reagan Library in California. Dignitaries could view the casket at the Reagan Library in California before the general public or after the general public; or in Washington, D.C. during the time set aside for the other government big wigs to attend. California Governor and Mrs. Schwarzenegger were in attendance during regular public viewing hours at the personal request of Mrs. Reagan – who did not take Kerry’s personal phone call to her, and did not issue an invitation to Kerry.

No other cameras -- digital or otherwise -- were allowed in the library. Period.

Yeah, it says it on Cnn, fox news, AP, everyone says he was there for 20 minutes...I mean just watch the clock and see how long that is! That`s an eternity in a situation like this, and it`s because he wanted those photos of himself from all different angles. Un-freggin-believable!!! Using a dead President as a photo op!

Also heard Pelosi is not happy about not being asked to speak.

dims seem to see this as a Wellstone moment. they do not care that the plan was set in place years ago. It called for the President Pro Temp of the Senate, the Speaker of the House, and the Majority Leader of the Senate. At the time, it would have been dims. Now, thankfully, it is not.

It's a zoom-in on the CSPAN set up (authorized by the Reagan family). Bo Derek is BEHIND the ropes. Kerry was INSIDE the ropes. Kerry's photos posted on YahooNews by the AP were at angles the CSPAN cameras couldn't possibly have gotten, zoom-in or otherwise. It seems to me that if Kerry had been 'smarter' he would have done like Bo Derek AND THE REST OF THE AMERICANS who came for the viewing... the CSPAN cameras could have zoomed-in on him just like they did for all the other publically recognizeable faces.

Rush told Kerry not to do it. He said that everyone would see it for exactly what it was.

One thing about "Liberals"--you can generally count on them not to take good advice. Predictability is one of their few virtues--if that's a virtue.

Oh OK...

Yeah, if Kerry had waited IN LINE, like the rest of people, AND walked around, like the rest of the people, I'd probably be less PO'd but the way he did this has me steaming!!!

Me, too. Normally I would never cartoon something like this, but it shows Kerry's character (or the lack thereof) and I feel it is important to bring this to the publics' attention. Running for President of the United States sets the bar at its highest. When Kerry demonstrates poor judgement on this kind of scale (being the 'exception to the rules' at the public showing of the remains of a very much loved former President...) it seems to me that he is UNFIT for the office. Think about how this man would really treat us regular Americans. Dissing President Reagan's remains publically = ?????? to regular, common folks.

Also at issue, Kerry broke line in front of TENS OF THOUSANDS of "ordinary" Americans, some of whom had waited patiently for HOURS. But of course, we couldn't exect der Fuhror to wait like a comman peasant, could we?

Think about Kerry, throwing those ribbons/medals over the fence back in 1971. Dissing American soldiers. Disrespecting the very heartbeats of countless courageous soldiers by saying through that action, "These medals/ribbons aren't worth s@#t!"

Think about the well reported stories of Kerry budging in line ahead of the 'nobodies'

Think about that doctor in Vietnam who treated Kerry's Purple Heart Medal boo-boo (with a bandaide), who said those in Kerry's unit said Kerry was going to be the next JFK

Think of a man married for many years with two children who gets AN ANNULMENT to his marriage. (That in my book equates to his say that his wife wasn't a wife and his kids were not legitimate.)

Think of all the fundamental and sacredly-held things Kerry has "broken the rules" on. He has made himself the exception to the rule(s).

And that is why I could not let it go yesterday. I could not sit and watch Kerry disrespect a former and now deceased President, disrespect the Office of President with his cheap grandstanding, disrespect the sanctity of the ceremony he was attending (breaking rules IS an action of disrespect, folks), and disrespecting the grief of all Americans watching this solemn viewing and vigil. The disruption he caused was hurtful in all these ways and more.

And that is why I want to bring it clearly to the attention of the American people.

Look carefully at the right, There wasn't just one photographer but two. I can clearly see Kerry biting his lip. He was probably regretting his words 'I fought against Reagan' which he said a year earlier.

by the way who goes to a viewing like that without their wife? Maybe she has more class than he and saw it was wrong. I doubt it but I will give her the benefit of the doubt.

I thought the same as you concerning Teresa. Afterall, she was married to a Republican senator for a very long time and thus Reagan was also part of her life. I'd prefer to think she was being sensible and considerate of Mrs. Reagan and not wanting to look in any way like she was grandstanding for her husband.

Have the two EVER gone anywhere for any public function since the beginning of this cmpaign? The bike ride...no, the ball game...no, out for wine and wafer...no. Hell, sheprobably won't be at the DNC either...

Note that Kerry is standing inside the ropes. He doesn't have to obey the rules like the rest of us do.
