Kerry lauds Reagan to high school students, cancels campaign events through Friday

NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer

(06-06) 12:38 PDT TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) --

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry lauded Ronald Reagan's legacy of bipartisanship Sunday and canceled five days of campaign events in honor of the former president's death.

"Yesterday, we lost one of our great optimists," Kerry told graduating seniors at Bedford High School. "President Reagan's belief in America was infectious. And because of the way he led, he taught us that there was a difference between strong beliefs and bitter partisanship."

Kerry's campaign said it was canceling all public events through Friday...

...including star-studded fund-raising concerts scheduled for Monday in Los Angeles and Thursday in New York...

He really had no other choice so I dont know why he is acting like it was a personal decision for the greater good.

"...and canceled five days of campaign events..."

This is the only way the world would've known.

Here is another SHORT EXCEPT form that article:

Kerry canceled the week's campaign trips to Colorado, California, Arizona and New York, but will travel to Los Angeles Tuesday and Wednesday to attend daughter Alexandra's graduation from the American Film Institute and a screening of her 15-minute film, "The Last Full Measure." He plans to spend of the rest of the week in Washington, where Reagan's body was being flown on Wednesday.

Kerry and the Democratic National Committee were canceling joint fund-raising concerts that were to feature Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, Billy Crystal, Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldberg, Bette Midler, Jon Bon Jovi, John Mellencamp and others. Tickets cost as much as $1,000. New dates will be announced when the concerts are rescheduled, Kerry's campaign said in a statement...

So, it appears that our Kerry/Streisand FReep has been postponed.
Unless anyone want to see his daughter's new graduation dress. :o)

Oh, please!

I think the guy is a schmuck. But he did have a choice. "President Reagan's belief in America was infectious. And because of the way he led, he taught us that there was a difference between strong beliefs and bitter partisanship." Contrast that with what the peanut farmer has had to say.

Kerry does enough that is shameful that when he does something right, and with class, we needn't be critical of him.

You know damn good and well that this statement is purely political with a future use in a political way!

The less he opens his maw, the more people like him. I'd imagine he'll soon realize that if he leaves the country, even more like him.

The other "benefit" is that for the next week, Kerry will not really be available to the press, and can/will be free to meet with power brokers, movers and shakers, and maybe his GF (if she's back in town).

The best thing Kerry could do is come out and explain what he's learned over the past 20 years about leading the free world -- from his mistaken opposition to Ronald Reagan's efforts. But he didn't learn anything, so he can't say that.

The sadness we all feel at Ronald Reagan's loss is an important moment for our political future. This D-day anniversary is a moment for all Americans to think back on presidents past -- and future. In his death, Ronald Wilson Reagan continues to give to his country: in this case, he's reminding us all what a dramatic choice we have in the upcoming November election.

Choose the Democrats, and choose malaise. Choose the Democrats and choose retreat, pessimism. Choose the democrats and tell the world that our shining city on the hill is turning down its brightness so as not to offend the French or the Chinese. Choose the Democrats and choose bigger, uglier government that will abolish the nuclear family.

Choose President Bush again, and choose another four years of bold leadership in the spirit of Ronald Reagan.

You're so right. The Gipper always had great timing.

The choice is clear. Kerry is a phony and promoting freedom and optimism is the only way forwarc. Kerry is incapable of that.

Hopefully the press will also issues a one week moratorium on publishing pictures of Kerry in his spandex tights during his time off from the campaign.

I guess he finally figured out that if no one is paying attention to him when there's bad news in Iraq, they certainly won't be paying attention to him now that the former president is lying in State.

.

I admire your CLARITY...

and your GROWTH in it, risk.

You have defined what's at stake in this Year's Election perfectly.
Just our FREEDOM, that's all.

Now we know why KENNEDY & KERRY have been so nice to a dead REAGAN
...when they were so very much just the opposite to him when he was alive.

The Enemy is now Within...
and always has been.

Yeah, Frenchie Kerry would look like the giant douchebag he is if he went around begging money from his menagerie of leftists, perverts, and imbeciles while Ronald Wilson Reagan lies in state at the Capital.

Kerry is doing the right thing, but if Reagan was bipartisan why did the Democrats do everything to portray him as a crazy right winger that was going to blow up the planet. It's interesting these guys never said a kind word about Reagan why he was alive, I'm glad to hear it now but it is 20 years late.

Lets see if the media will try to compare this funeral to the Wellstone funeral if any Republican gets out of line.
